  • Pied Piper Play Cafe
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition? We serve breakfast, lunch, kids meals, snacks, and beer and wine at very reasonable prices. We serve local, community-oriented Happy Cup Coffee. Our play area has a padded floor and is geared toward the safety and amusement of small kids. We want parents to enjoy some downtime. What is the experience customers can expect? Friendly and sympathatic staff and patrons who will not glare at you if your kids yell or make a mess. You will be reintroduced to downtime in a cafe, something we know you've been missing since having children. What was the inspiration to start or run this business? Opened by a teacher with 2 kids under 4 years of age, play cafes were the only place to get any grading or planning done. Saw a need for more of these havens, especially geared toward the smallest (and most demanding of parents' time) children. What do you love most about your job? Seeing moms and dads or friends reconnect over a cup of coffee while their kiddos are totally engrossed in the play area. Parents and friends can really lose touch with each other when they are constantly catering to their children. Connections are the best part of this job.

  • StingRay Cafe
The baristas of StingRay Cafe help awaken patrons with fresh espresso drinks, including cappuccinos and americanos, as well as tea, chai, and hot chocolate. Located within the Leftbank Project, StingRay Cafe is part of a network of small-business owners reusing city landmark buildings as commercial space, rather than letting them fall into disrepair or join a punk band and graffiti themselves.
