Edge Coffee isn't just community-oriented, it is also a reflection of the community. That's because they source most of their ingredients locally, whether it is their coffee beans from local roaster Sisters Coffee or their pastries and bread from Marsee's and La Provence. These ingredients form the basis of their menu, with staff grinding, blending, and pouring coffee into classic drinks or lattes made with premium Monin syrups. Atop their breads, they create breakfast staples such as bagel- and english-muffin sandwiches or their signature boxed lunch specials served with a juicy kosher pickle and locally made kettle chips. Even their drinks have Oregon connections, with fresh smoothies incorporating Oregon strawberries alongside unique add-ins such as protein powder or a splash of energy-boosting Rockstar. They also serve beer from Oregon, such as the Overcast Espresso Stout, which fuses the flavors of beer, chocolate, and coffee.
Billy's Bar beckons diners with a menu of upscale pub fare and a fountain of locally made beer and wine. Drinking foursomes can imbibe 4-ounce samples of brew from the area discussing which has the best color, which pairs the best with pub fare, and which has more hops than a toddler drinking Mountain Dew. Couple mini malts with any of Billy's starters including smooth roasted garlic hummus, warming beef chili, and creamy baby mac 'n' cheese. Alternately, opt for the second deal to excavate the piping hot core of a steaming meat loaf entree ($9) or fling a pepperoni-topped gladiator pizza ($10) into a breadbasket during an impromptu frisbee-golf game with the next table over.
Arthur Murray Dance Studio has been a leading name in franchise dance since 1912, when the entrepreneur began selling mail-order dance lessons. Expanding his reach, he enlisted teachers to spread his signature dance lessons on first-class steamships and skyrocketed to fame in the '30s after introducing the public to such dances as the Lambeth Walk and the Big Apple. By the 1950s, Arthur and his wife, Kathryn, were hosting their own highly popular TV show on ABC, the Arthur Murray Dance Party, which ran for 12 years. Today, Arthur Murray's team prepares students for rug cutting at special events and weekend nightclub jaunts. Clients who arrive to lessons partnerless will be paired up with other classmates as the instructors assess their current skill level and make recommendations on the most appropriate program. Throughout lessons, instructors teach the foundations of two to four dances from a long list of styles that range from Latin to country-western, helping students to learn basic step patterns, timing, and the ability to lead or follow.
Sports stream from a fleet of televisions that line almost every wall inside The Spot Sports Bar & Grill. As diners root on their favorite teams and shoot pool, the wait staff hustles between high-top tables and stools with pulled-pork sandwiches, enchiladas, wings, and calamari. The eclectic menu also includes deep-fried peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwiches and super nachos that pack a hearty mix of cheese, beans, vegetables, and choice of meat. A DJ busts out the latest tunes on Friday and Saturday nights, and families gather around the giant projector screen for Thursday karaoke, singing favorite hits or reciting the Latin phrase woven into their family crest.
