At Texas Handgun Academy, state-licensed instructors focus on teaching concealed-handgun-license classes.
Instructors at Bullet Trap call upon their onsite range and classroom space to teach courses, most of which focus on helping students qualify for a concealed-handgun license. Beyond that, they go over the fundamentals in beginner handgun lessons and work with students during private sessions. The range connects to a 4,200-square-foot showroom, where the staff advises on arms, ammo, and accessories.
Instructors David Freeman and Jerry Colliver both served in the military; David piloted medical-evacuation helicopters during Vietnam, and Jerry operated nuclear-missile silos during the Cold War. Despite this experience, they prefer not to approach firearm use from a military perspective. Instead, the NRA-certified instructors teach with a relaxed style that's absent of jargon and acronyms. This approach helps students to feel comfortable owning, carrying, and shooting firearms.
During their classes, the duo emphasizes topics such as nonviolent dispute resolution, safe firearm storage, and the fundamentals of handgun shooting, which students further master with practice time on the range. David and Jerry employ similar techniques to teach beginner hunters Texas's hunting regulations.

Bryan D. Proctor, II is the certified instructor behind Go Strapped Concealed Handgun. To say he brings a lot of experience to the classroom and range is a bit of an understatement, as that experience includes both military service and more than a decade spent as a police officer. At Go Strapped, Proctor primarily teaches CHL courses, though for beginners he combines the CHL curriculum with NRA-certified lessons in basic pistol shooting and gun safety.
Calling upon backgrounds in the military and law enforcement, Proactive Defense?s state- and NRA-licensed instructors Chris Rainey and Hank Denny train students on what to do should they ever encounter a threatening situation. Utilizing both classroom and live-fire training, Chris and Hank teach everything from basic handling such as reloading and clearing jams, through advanced skills, including drawing from the holster and transitioning through multiple firearms. To support the armed forces, they also organize a scholarship fund for the supplementary training of military personnel who might not be able to otherwise afford it.
