Los Amigos Golf Course doesn't waste any time challenging players: the very first hole is also the longest hole, clocking in at a whopping 516 yards. Designed by revered architect Bill Bell, the course tests golfers with beautiful yet hazardous tree-lined greens and a pair of shimmering lakes. So players can conquer the course's hurdles without having to parachute balls from a well-placed helicopter, Los Amigos offers plenty of instructional opportunities, including lessons for groups and entire families. The facility also boasts an expansive practice area, complete with large putting greens, chipping zones, and a night-lit driving range with both mat and grass tees.
The course and its facilities can also be rented out for weddings, quincea?eras, business meetings, and other events. And like its name, several employees at Los Amigos Golf Course are bilingual.

Named a top place to play in Southern California by Golf Digest, the course at Rio Hondo Golf Club leads players on a zigzagging path toward glimpses of glittering lakes and waterfalls. Separated from adjacent holes by aisles of stately pine, the narrow fairways traverse rolling hills and mounds strategically placed to create tricky lies and inhibit golf-cart drag racing. When a rusty swing holds back progress, the club facilitates game improvement with a lighted, 30-stall practice range, as well as lessons with head PGA professional Steve Labarge and his band of instructors. The new 23,000-square-foot clubhouse houses the buzz of activity, inviting players to down cold beers while enjoying the emerald panorama.

A nonprofit organization, Shoestring City Ranch is run by instructors that dedicate their time to teach teamwork and leadership skills to city-slicker kids by having them work with rescued animals. The environmentally friendly ranch hosts clinics on communicating with pets and group horseback-riding classes that teach everyone from tots to adults how to groom and ride. They also host fun events in addition to classes, such as the 5K Gallop and 1-Mile Tot Trot and a Roping Clinic 101, where a professional rodeo cowboy teaches students how to use a lasso.

Blaine Eastcott's love of the outdoors is rooted in fond childhood memories of family camping trips. On one such trip, Blaine's teenage self impulsively climbed a 100-foot rock only to soon find himself struck by panic high up on the rock face. He was paralyzed by fear, until a surge of adrenaline gave him the courage needed to scramble the final 10 feet up. This ordeal spurred him to take rock-climbing classes?and eventually led to his current position as the president of Rockreation. His three adrenaline-inducing arenas challenge climbers of all skill levels with more than 28,500 total square feet of climbing terrain, composed of jagged cliffs, bouldering nooks, and craggy archways. The faux-mountain range mimics the conditions of real rocks with indentions, overhangs, and eagle's nests.
The gyms devote one-third of their space to a bouldering area, which blends into a top-rope course fraught with varying angles, and a large lead area with an overhanging arch. Across these angles, passionate instructors with extensive outdoors experience?and a background in conversational mountain goat?guide students through the Fight Gravity program. The three-class series focuses on belaying basics, and progresses through technique instruction and bouldering. They also lead seasonal kids' camps where tiny humans can explore the routes, or plunge on a big swing and zipline. The gyms also have a separate area with machines, traditional weights, and cardio equipment for members who want to not only climb rocks, but also lift heavy ones above their heads.
Perhaps the only thing as impressive as Roy Elghanayan?s reign as a two-time Israeli Krav Maga National Champion is the students with whom he?s shared his incredible skill. He first was hand-chosen to devise the Israeli Special Forces? training program. In 2011, the Argentinean Marines enlisted him to teach the sport to their soldiers. He even trained actress Jessica Chastain for her role in the movie The Debt. Today, he continues to travel the world to teach Krav Maga and works out of his studio, Krav Maga L.A. | REKM.
Krav maga is a more rigorous form of self-defense developed by the Israeli military when they realized that ancient martial arts would translate to modern battlefields. Roy and his staff helm classes for both adults and children as part of a six-day schedule that divides students by their skill level. Beginners? classes corral 18 participants or less so that instructors can easily oversee technique while still having enough bodies to build a human pyramid if morale is low. With continued practice, the instructors at Krav Maga L.A. | REKM hope to imbue their students with the physical and mental skill to escape threatening situations should they ever arise.
