In 2006, Bellevue First Congregational Church opened a day center to provide respite for women who are homeless, and later opened The Sophia Way as an overnight shelter. It was equipped with 10 beds for single women who have no place to go for a night's rest. Today, the organization has recently acquired an additional space that can house 21 women at a time. In addition to overnight shelter, The Sophia Way also provides a two-year subsidized apartment for 45 women at a time, along with life-skills classes and case-management services to help the women work toward financial independence.
For Maria Rippo, unhealthy eating and unbalanced emotions go hand in hand. In order to help patients tackle both issues at once, she offers holistic services such as life coaching or sugar detoxes, which look at the root causes of unhealthy eating. Maria also offers hypnotherapy in the form of her four-week-long trim-life classes which increase motivation for physical activities and reverse negative self image, as well as decrease cravings.
Jubilee Women’s Center aims to propel women out of crisis situations by providing the resources to help them achieve safe housing and financial stability. Jubilee's clients live in a long-term community housing program for an average of 14 months. During this time, they can interact with other women experiencing homelessness and work toward new goals in a supportive environment. Jubilee’s education center sponsors classes for more than 50 residents each year in a variety of technology- and skills-oriented subjects including credit repair, word-processing, and interview skills. These programs aim to help women find jobs or increase their incomes so that they can attain stable housing and become self-sufficient.
