Kathy Centala has been a proud cat lover for 25 years. When she founded Purrfect Pals in 1988, she operated the organization as a modest cat boarding facility that took in the occasional homeless cat. However, she quickly recognized that these homeless kitties were part of a much large group of cats in need, and she began taking on more and more cats rather than let suffer from hunger and neglect on the streets. When she ran out of room at home, she moved the organization to a five-acre estate in rural Arlington, Washington, allowing her to provide a loving temporary home for cats and broaden her goal to putting an end to feline homelessness in Puget Sound.

Today, her organization provides a sanctuary where all cats – including feral cats, cats suffering from leukemia and FIV, and cats with behavioral issues – can enjoy the love and attention they deserve. Kathy’s adoption and rehabilitation programs allow Purrfect Pals to place more than 2,500 cats and kittens in loving homes each year. Furthermore, she seeks to educate families on the importance of spaying and neutering and humane ownership.

Three Dog Bakery unleashed its first tasty treats for man's cuddly companion back in 1989 and now has legs across North America, China, and Japan. The quickly expanding barkery takes pride in providing all-natural, human-grade foods to doggies—foods that will help them live long, healthy lives while keeping them fit and promoting a positive Air Bud–esque self-image. In addition to fresh, baked-in-store goods and refrigerated products, Three Dog Bakery treats furry friends to prepackaged all-natural rawhides such as the vanilla rawhide braid. To reward especially good behavior or console your pup after a nasty catfight, appeal to his or her sweetest incisors with some vanilla Lick 'n Crunch, apple oatmeal Jump 'n Sit Bits, Peanut Woofers, or carob chip Bark 'n Fetch oven-baked biscuits.

Having encouraged her toddler’s artistic side so successfully that by age 4 he was creating impressive paintings, artist Joey Simon was urged by her community members to start art workshops for children. Beginning in 2005, she did just that, hosting classes out of the basement of a Victorian home on Vancouver Island. Today, 4Cats Arts Studio has locations throughout North America, including the Port Moody studio where children’s workshops are flanked by adult classes and family events on the packed schedule. In addition to making its community members a more artistic bunch, the business gives back by hosting food drive events in the winter.
