Playtime shouldn't just be for kids. That's the idea behind Atlanta Family Fun Centers, under which both Cascade Family Skating and Golden Glide Party Zone bring the party. At either location, rollerskating beckons kids and adults to lace up their rollerskates and zip around the rink. Everyone takes the floor during family skating, while teens get their own event space at teen skating and adults work on their cardio moves to '80s hits during adult skating.
The centers host more than rollerskating, too. Inflatables provide hours of bouncy entertainment during birthday parties, inviting guests to run, jump, and bounce in the way they were never allowed to on their childhood beds.
Blu Tavern's chefs conduct a diverse chorus of Asian, Italian, and Latin American flavors to entertain taste buds with an eclectic dinner menu. Alongside sips of the night’s featured wine, evening feasts commence with savory appetizers such as coconut-curry mussels steeped in a fragrant bath of coconut milk and green curry or smoked sea-salt tuna ceviche served with chickpea relish, sweet potato, and peruvian corn. Hearty menu headliner herb-crusted salmon mignon satisfies stomachs' aching need both for seafood and self-fulfillment. Forks can also dig into main dishes such as pan-roasted bone-in pork chops topped in a balsamic-and-herb glaze and chicken adraki simmered in a spicy yogurt sauce. For dessert, diners can dive into slices of key-lime pie or croissant bread pudding to get the sugar rush required for participation in marathon readings of ancient Etruscan love poetry.
At Rainforest Golf, mini golfers tackle two 18-hole courses that snake through lush foliage and running waterfalls. On hot days, visitors can cool down with Edy's ice cream and milkshakes, relax on a bench in the shade, or huddle under the belly of an elephant statue. Indoors, a private party room accommodates birthdays and events.
Multicolored globes illuminate the wood skating floor of Skate Along USA, along with the skaters strolling rhythmically to high-energy dance tunes. Throughout the week the Skate Along USA DJs look over the floor from the elevated sound booth, where they select songs for skating sessions and sound effects for the rocket-skating mishaps of cartoon coyotes. On certain nights the DJs will host themed playlists including Top 40 tracks from the realms of hip-hop and R & B, kid-friendly afternoon playlists, and late-night tunes for adults age 18 and older. An onsite pro shop vends skating accessories, including glowing items for black-light skating, and the facility's internet café and arcade gives skaters a break from the arena's centripetal force.
Top 40 hits blast from speakers on the walls at Starlite Skating Center, sending skaters bouncing to the beat as they glide across the rink. Though the music is modern, the roller rink itself is a throwback: it's made of genuine hardwood maple, like the ones that were so popular in the 1960s. Zooming on top of it is as easy as picking up a pair of rental skates?but for those who?ve never traveled on eight wheels, the centers offer skating lessons, teaching students skills from basic balancing to skating while you're in a handstand.
The centers entertain families off the rink, as well. Players can test their skills on 50 arcade games, while littler children jump and swing in the padded playgrounds. The Sharpsburg location also has a laser tag arena, where siblings and friends square off in space-age shooting matches.
