At Westside MMA, professional mixed-martial-arts instructors tutor students in the calorie-destroying, stress-relieving methods of attack and defense. Having trained everyone from first-timers to internationally competitive pros, the Westside MMA staff is fully equipped to teach pupils the fundamentals of kickboxing. Participants will relish a month of fun, challenging workouts while getting their gloves on proper punch and kick techniques, blocking skills, and footwork drills designed to make full-contact ballroom dancing less intimidating. In addition to forging a stronger core and increasing flexibility in its practitioners, kickboxing can help build confidence, and as a practical self-defense method, it has proved to be 100% more effective than carrying around a balloon with a scary face drawn on it.
At Achieve Medical Weight Loss’s myriad locations, physicians and nutritional counselors promote lasting lifestyle changes. Rather than relying on fad diets or strapping tiny treadmills to their clients’ feet, their simple program espouses a combination of scientific analysis, exercise, and nutrition. Lab work and body-composition analyses allow the staff to personalize programs to each individual’s unique needs. Then, through exercise and dietary plans, the team helps instill good habits that stick. Should clients require an additional boost, appetite suppressants and vitamin injections can help kick-start their weight-loss efforts.
Celebrated by Golfweek as one of the 40 Best New Courses of 2010, the site where Civil War–bushwhacker Alfred Bolin and his gang once ambushed unsuspecting travelers is now John Daly’s Murder Rock Golf and Country Club. The 18-hole course plots an oscillating, 6,727-yard path over the foothills of the Ozark Mountains. The first hole sets the tone for the round with an elevated tee box that looks out 363 yards downhill into the mountainous contours that ripple against the horizon. The par 71 course concludes at the daunting 18th hole—the course’s longest par four and most difficult hole—where an aggressive drive can cut off the corner of a dog-leg right on the way to a severely sloped green and portal into Space Jam.
Legs weary from ascending steep hills or squat-thrusting golf carts can take a load off at Glenn’s at Murder Rock. Amid dark-stained wood paneling and leather-upholstered chairs, the eatery serves an inventive grill menu including steak flatbread sandwiches and pitas stuffed with Cajun-seasoned chicken or shrimp.
