The Yoga Space's instructors believe that all bodies, despite age and fitness level, can benefit from practicing yoga, inspiring aspiring yogis to bolster their minds and bodies with tranquility and strength. The instructors hold integrated yoga classes in which beginners and advanced students work side by side, bending and stretching into modified poses to suit their abilities. Class styles range from eclectic blends of several modalities to athletic Vinyasa sessions that focus on linking controlled breaths with a series of flowing postures. The studio's practice room fosters peaceful relaxation with calming earth tones and plenty of soft, natural light. An ethereal mural of a tree spans the room with curling branches dotted in blossoms, providing students with a soothing point of focus. The Yoga Space supplies mats for yogis without them, as well as any other necessary props, and students are welcome to bring a blanket to keep warm during extended periods of meditation or to build a blanket fort.
Bally enshrines exercise classes, calorie-burning equipment, and a fitness-focused staff within its sanctuaries of health. A 30-day membership includes access to a spread of group exercise classes, including Pilates, Reaction Cycling, and Step Fitness (class offerings vary by location). For self-guided worker-outers, cardio equipment such as treadmills, elliptical machines, cross-trainers, and stair climbers torch calories while entertaining the brain with video entertainment and integrated music systems that occasionally whisper quotes from Charles Atlas. Bally also boasts an array of strength machines, free weights, and small-apparatus equipment, and grants gym-goers access to on-site locker rooms, showers, and, at some locations, a pool and steam room. Visit each location's webpage for a list of specific amenities and the lineup of classes.
Jazzercise is 60 minutes of cardio, strength training, and stretching that incorporates moves from hip-hop, yoga, Pilates, jazz dance, kickboxing, and resistance training with handheld weights. Dancing With the Stars multiple-champion Cheryl Burke is a big fan of Jazzercise's improvisational workouts, though luckily you won't need her dance moves to get the most out of your class. If you're prone to first-class jitters, though, you can review the basic moves online before you go. Expect to burn off up to 500 calories with each go-round.
AOK! Fitness's expert trainers and instructors keep clients engaged and active with their signature slate of unlimited group fitness classes. Within the expansive 8,400-square-foot gym, guests find everything they need for a well-rounded workout, from nationally recognized programs such as Zumba, Insanity, and Ab Lab to the gym's own schedule of unique classes. In addition to providing the workouts that made them a success, the trainers at AOK! Fitness also have their eyes on the future. They've upgraded their Ultimate 36 Auto-Fit program to include Barre-Pilates Core, and continue to oversee a running program that takes newcomers on a journey from "Couch to 5K" and engages experienced runners with group meetups throughout the year. They've also got one more expansion in the works: a 1,200-square-foot studio with a 20-foot ceiling that will give AOK! Fitness room to further expand their Barre program, incorporate additional types of yoga, and increase their TRX Yoga Flow offerings.
Joe Butler doesn't do things halfway. When he wanted to learn to be a physical trainer, he went to LA, trained with some of the top trainers in the world, and began training pro athletes and movie stars. Then he opened his own personal training gym, where he assembled a team of trainers with a combined 200 years of training experience. These days, he and his trainers lead guests of all fitness levels through training programs that include boot-camp, speed-and-agility, and RX Fit classes. Every student who walks into Prescription Fitness is treated to a health assessment and goal-setting consultation, allowing clients to slim down, bulk up, or prep for javelin season.
