Eponymous spa owner Lucia believes that a person’s beauty is a reflection of his or her own health and inner happiness, and that happiness should shine as brightly as possible. To help clients up their wattage, Lucia supports a healthy glow with a repertoire of technologically enhanced beauty treatments that echo Eastern and Western philosophies—traditional natural remedies coexisting with modern beauty solutions.
Lucia's favorite service is the microphototherapy treatment, during which gentle pulses of light dissipate traces of age and acne while purging pores with a blast of light bright enough to help follicles catch up on their reading. Dedicated to helping her clients find the best skin solution for them, Lucia also helps reap clearer skin with a natural herbal peel, which she massages into the skin with detoxifying kneading actions.
Vitamin C and peels aren’t just words used to describe oranges—they’re also descriptors of one of La Tour Salon’s six specialty facials. The Peeling & Vitamin C treatment lasts 90 minutes, and it renews the visage with an EZ Peel, AHA mask, and a massage of the face, neck, and shoulders. But the salon presents an array of services for hair and nails, as well. A backdrop of light wood tones matches the pleasant aesthetic imparted by stylists who cut, color, and straighten tresses with Moroccanoil and ColorProof products. Not far off is the nail area, where technicians scrub and hydrate hands before coating nails with a colorful polish from OPI or essie. And in private treatment rooms, aestheticians lend their expertise to gently wax strands from more than 15 areas across the body. They can also use an ancient cotton threading technique to pluck unwanted hair from facial areas, such as the hair a boyfriend taped to your chin to make matching goatees.
The Nail Shop's signature finger- and toe-helmet-buffing procedure covers all the keratin bases. Cuticles become cute, nail edges assume supple shapes, nails don bright glossy new coats, and hands and feet are gently kneaded, like hard-boiled eggs under the Easter Bunny's paw. The deluxe version of the pedicure incorporates an exfoliating aloe-vera pumice scrub and a tingly peppermint masque and elegantly extends the hoof-rub to ten mollycoddling minutes, scented with the lotion of your choice. The deluxe manicure also ups the phalange-ante, sloughing off dead skin with a crystalline citrus rub and nourishing it from roof to basement with vitamin E cream. Both deluxe procedures are concluded with a warm towel wrap.

The Claremont Hotel & Spa stands just a few minutes from the campus of the University of California, Berkeley, home to some 36,000 students and a still-thriving activist spirit. Lined with cafés and smoke shops, colorful Telegraph Avenue bustles with scholars, bohemians, and vendors hawking tie-dyed graduation gowns.World-famous musicians and actors take the stage at Hertz and Zellerbach Halls and the Berkeley Repertory Theatre, and plenty of bars and restaurants along Shattuck Avenue pour microbrews and serve farm-to-table cuisine. Wandering Berkeley’s residential neighborhoods can be a charming diversion in the spring and summer, when tangled gardens spill over onto tree-lined sidewalks.Read the Fine Print for important info on travel dates and other restrictions.
The Nail Shop on Solano Avenue’s team of technicians wields a decade of experience to cosset nails and de-fuzz skin in an immaculate spa setting. And, within a discreet private room, aestheticians depilate unwanted fuzz from faces and bodies with layers of powerful wax. Guests sip gratis glasses of water, tea, or coffee as they let newly polished digits surf complimentary wireless Internet, flip through current magazines, and practice tap-dance routines for miniature Broadway revues.
