  • Blitz Paintball
Teammates skirt the abandoned RV, dart through the open door of a downed helicopter, and duck for cover behind a concrete bunker. After a pause, a player stands to check for enemies on the landscape of dusty huts and fences?only to have paint splatter across his chest. On Blitz Paintball's five recreational paintball fields, players immerse themselves in the thrill of paint-based combat through a range of scenarios. The staff designs regularly changing games for each field, including the traditional Capture the Flag or UN treaty signing, and also allows players to create their own styles of play. Players rent standard semi-automatic, Tippmann A5, or high-end markers, pressurized tanks, and masks, and they prep for combat in a 5,000-square-foot shaded staging area. They're then turned loose to compete on the football-field-size Hyperball field, the Spool field, or themed Urban Combat, The Castle and Military Base fields, upon which elevated fortresses allow players to duck for cover from the aggressive native pigeon population. Projectiles whisper through the air in a two-story, 7,000-square-foot castle, where warriors work their way into an interior courtyard and massive throne room. Two regulation PSP tournament fields host more competitive play with astroturf and padded barriers.

  • Allstar Paintball
Helmed by a staff of 15-year veterans, Allstar Paintball lets pigment-powered gunsmiths run wild across a five-man indoor field situated within a 12,000-square-foot facility or on the exciting terrain of the newly opened outdoor field. After strapping on safety gear, filling tanks with CO2, and loading Tippmann 98 hoppers, players maneuver across turf, crouch behind inflatable bunkers, and blend seamlessly into kindergarten art displays as they blast nonstaining, easy-break paintballs in the direction of opposing players. As all-day play unfolds, the facility's veteran referees mix up field patterns to avoid repetitive rounds and monitor each contest to ensure participants compete against visitors of similar age, ability, and devotion to abstract expressionism. Off the field, spectators can check email and live blog battles with complementary WiFi, or admire the paint-splattering play from behind protective netting. To crank up the competition, Allstar Paintball also plays host to friends and frenemies during birthday parties, corporate outings, and oddly vengeful retirement sendoffs. The facility boasts a 5,000-square-foot area replete with chairs and picnic tables for birthday cake cutting and other celebratory activities.

  • Frightmare Haunted House
Flesh-eating zombies, cannibalistic clowns, nightmarish ghouls, and haunting ghosts prowl The Frightmare Compound, ready to snatch those foolish enough to venture through its fear-infested grounds. Known as one of Colorado's oldest and largest haunted attractions, the compound houses two terrifying attractions on more than 100,000 square feet of swampland. Horrors unseen wait for new victims inside the first compound, where a haunted barn filled with terrors is the least of visitors' worries. The second attraction, the House of Darkness, was the site of a terrible massacre and lay abandoned for some time until the Frightmare staff brought it to their site. Soon after, the ghosts of those slain began roaming its halls, and clowns with a taste for human flesh found their way inside its corridors.

  • American Paintball Coliseum
Ducking behind a rusty old car, the paintballer peers through the windshield as he preps his next move, knowing all too well that opponents lurk behind the barrels and old cars littering the rest of the 65-acre outdoor field. Meanwhile, at an indoor facility, players traverse an astroturfed airball field or weave their way around a scenario field's walk-in tanks and barricades. Elsewhere, the pro shop equips competitors with gear ranging from name-brand markers to bulletproof easels. In the coming months, American Paintball Coliseum plans on enthralling visitors anew by renovating its outdoor location into 14 different playing fields, adding a concession stand to its indoor facility, and adding a laser tag option to its fields.

  • Dynamic Paintball Denver
A rainbow of paint showers Dynamic Paintball's 8 acres, where players weave between bunkers. Year round, these simulated battlefields host games of intense Capture the Flag, during which participants must dodge acrylic salvos, hide behind wooden structures, and race across grassy fields. To keep things fun yet safe, Dynamic Paintball's staffers supervise all games and matches up players based on skill level. They also set up paintball battles for bachelor parties and birthdays. Away from the technicolor warzone, a shaded staging area lets groups strategize and grab bites to eat. Players can also head over to Dynamic Paintball's proshop, where staffers repair damaged gear and recommend new paintball guns from the likes of Tippmann.
