When Eric Simpson first adopted his dog Gunner, he probably couldn't have foreseen how the pup would change his life. After watching daycare improve Gunner's canine social skills, Eric knew he had to open his own daycare facility. Today he and his staff care for pups in three BarkZone locations. Rather than spend all day cooped up in a kennel or watching soap operas on TV, dogs enrolled in daycare play all day in the indoor facility with staff members and other pups. The staff also welcomes overnight guests, and owners can opt to have their dogs walked or groomed during their stay.
Stress isn’t allowed inside Tresor Day Spa. The spa’s staff bars the door against tensions with a panoply of pamperings, such as therapeutic massage, baobab footbaths, and mud body wraps that draw out toxins. Many of their services use Nu Skin products that are designed to undo aging. Galvanic facial and body treatments, which tighten and tone skin, are a particular specialty here, particularly because they minimize the appearance of cellulite, wrinkles, and imprints from crushing beer cans on your forehead.
Skylor Powell isn't your typical health counselor. In case her turkey-bacon grilled-cheese recipe doesn't make it obvious, the yoga instructor/road-trip-taker/chef has no interest in forcing bland or difficult-to-plan meals onto plates. Instead, Skylor is passionate about making healthy lifestyles fun, delicious, and easy, and her expertise has gotten the attention of KATU news. Skylor’s nutritional programs range from single half-hour refresher discussions to three-week meal plans, and three-month coaching regimens.
Though they may include meetings, e-mails, and encouraging skywriter messages, Skylor's one-on-one wellness programs are mainly characterized by her recipes. Designed to be tasty and simple to assemble, these recipes guide clients through the creation of their own meals, which are primarily gluten- and dairy-free, and frequently incorporate vegetarian and raw foods.
Munchkin Playland's pint-sized playground invites children ages four and younger to socialize and explore under parental supervision. Modeled after the adorably miniature Oregon landscape, the play area features climbable objects such as a duck, a beaver, a tree, and a wooden bridge. An adjacent cafe welcomes adults with local coffee from Stumptown roasters, and lets kids refuel with healthy snacks such as bananas and yogurt. In addition to open-play times, Friday family-fun nights entertain youngsters up to seven years old with popcorn and age-appropriate movies.
