The founders of Tango Mercurio chose their non-profit's name carefully. Mercury symbolizes connection, which is what they hope to foster both between paired dancers and within their local community. The arts education organization believes that tango dancing transcends boundaries of class, ethnicity, and generation, and therefore can facilitate greater cultural understanding and social cohesion. So in addition to group and private lessons, the studio offers outreach programs and supports the all-volunteer Community Tango Orchestra. No matter what type of class a student enrolls in, what level they are studying at, or what outreach program they're lucky enough to access, the Tango Mercurio curriculum covers core principles: body awareness, technical proficiency, expressiveness, and, of course, connection. This connection between partners is important because it is both conducive to improvisation and creative expression, and also allows for larger, collaborative expression as a community, something the founders believe is essential to the overall health and stability of societies.

Since 1973, each of Sport&Health's 24 clubs has aimed for full fitness coverage with programs for every taste and family member. Guests can spark positive lifestyle changes with gym workouts and wellness services, or engage in a variety of sports. Each facility houses different athletic amenities for games and laps, from pristine swimming pools to squash and racquetball courts lathered in a fresh coat of peanut butter every morning. The camaraderie of group classes such as Zumba and Les Mills BodyPump barbell routines complement scores of gym equipment meant for exercising solo—or with the guidance of a certified personal trainer. The clubs also emphasize kid-friendly activities with arts and crafts, Kidz Klub childcare, and youth certification courses that teach teens the ins and outs of training. Depending on the location, spa treatments can knead tension from muscles and paint one's favorite kettlebell with a layer of Shellac.

A panel of certified instructors is ready and waiting to instruct students in the ways of balance and coordinated rhythmic motion. Bring a partner to your duo of private lessons, or fly solo and dance with your instructor and a knowing smirk. In either case, you'll leave with a greater understanding of the dance style of your choosing. These lessons are ideal for a range of potential students, from the disgruntled pedestrian looking to never get served again to the fledgling fitness-seeker looking for a fun new way to get shipshape. Stick to a stately waltz, spicy up life with a rumba, or feel vibrant and playful with a few new swing steps for your personal repertoire. Whether you're an experienced dancer hoping to brush up on certain techniques or you have two left feet for feet and two right feet for hands, the lessons at Arthur Murray Dance Studio offer bountiful, dance-based benefits.

Drawing from his career as a nationally ranked junior and as a tennis star at Towson University (NCAA Division 1), Nitin Deodhar, a United States Professional Tennis Association instructor, passes on his orb-smashing savvy at Bethesda Tennis Academy. Scored to the rhythms of shuffling shoes and baseline rallies, Nitin and his staff impart their on-court wisdom during private lessons and clinics for both juniors and adults. Their curriculum ranges from sessions that focus on techniques and strategy, including playing doubles and bribing the ref, to sessions that focus more on cardio. To accommodate its bustling slate of private and group instruction, Bethesda Tennis Academy makes use of three different locations: Seven Locks Swim & Tennis Club, Old Georgetown Swim and Tennis Club, and Carderock Springs Swim and Tennis Club.
