  • Simi Valley Batting Cages & Pro Shop
When Simi Valley Batting Cages first opened back in 1989, it was simply a place where batters could practice their swing. Since then, owner Rudy Gonzalez has made it his goal to create a facility where players can work on other facets of their game, such as fielding and wrestling the mascot. Sure, he's installed state-of-the-art pitching machines that hurl balls as fast as 75 miles per hour, but he's also organized lessons that focus not only on hitting, but also on throwing and other fundamentals. Teams can also employ high-quality custom uniform and embroidery services for not only baseball and softball, but other sports as well. Players will find plenty of ways to boost their game in the pro shop, which stocks bats, bags, and gear from brands such as Easton and Rawlings.

  • On-Deck Baseball
From fast balls to sliders, the HomePlate pitching machines by Sports Tutor at On-Deck Baseball's indoor facility fling baseballs and softballs at speeds of up to 90 and 60 mph, respectively. Of course, being a gifted baseball player doesn't just mean knowing how to make contact at the plate. That's why On-Deck partners with West Coast Baseball School to host spring, summer, and winter camps for coaches and players alike. Taught by former members of the San Francisco Giants and Seattle Mariners, courses focus on baseball essentials such as fielding, pitching, and serving umpires the customary tea during seventh-inning stretches. Besides refining skills on the field, On-Deck hones strong muscles thanks to exercise equipment such as free weights and the Next Level Fast-Twitch machine.

The staples are there: girlfriends ready to have fun, Fans of Mario Kart know Rainbow Road as a glow-in-the-dark racecourse in outer space. So do fans of ABC's The Bachelor, only theirs is located on earth and strewn with more celebrities than turtle shells. To them, it's the series of inflatable arches that flashed hypnotically around Juan Pablo and Kat as they hurtled through the Electric Run. Seth Rogen, Carmen Electra, and a pink-wigged Vanessa Hudgens have also been spotted among the global event's hordes of runners and walkers. Rainbow Road is just one of many "lands" that make up Electric Run's luminescent 5K. Any given Electric Run course contains five to seven of these brightly lit zones, each decorated according to its theme with neon trees, hanging umbrellas, phosphorescent cacti, and cascading fountains. Each land also matches the surroundings with its own soundtrack: upbeat and energizing for the wilder areas, calming and melodic for the surreal ones. Once the sun sets, participants travel through them all at their preferred pace. Everyone arrives at the same final destination, however?a DJ-propelled after party that keeps the night illuminated until the thunderous ka-chunk of the sun's timecard.
