There's the kind of nail art that features colorful stripes and glittery flowers. And then there's what House of Polish owner Robert Nguyen and his team do: graffiti-style letters, sculptural 3D designs, even mini murals that stretch across 10 nails with impossibly detailed likenesses of characters such as E.T., Yoda, and the Cheshire Cat. Nguyen's art has amassed more than 10,000 Instagram followers and even a TV audience: he's appeared as a contestant on Oxygen's Nail'd It.?
As an international educator for OPI, Nguyen has seen his fair share of nail salons, which helped him create one of the country's most luxurious nail boutiques. Once guests choose a bottle from a polish wall of more than 2,000 colors, they can settle into a studded armchair, grab a pair of blinged-out Beats by Dre headphones, and watch Netflix on one of the salon's iPads. Before or after their services, they can also head upstairs to the lounge for a complimentary drink or complimentary compliment from the bar.
GlamMe Beauty Studio?s team travel to homes, places of work, and dentists? offices to pamper clients. They also work at 11 salons in LA and surrounding areas. Stylists cut hair, magically grow hair with extensions, and embellish strands with semipermanent color and highlights. They also beautify nails during mani-pedis, wax away fuzz on faces, and add drama to peepers with eyelash extensions.
When men need pampering, they escape to Mr. Nail Lounge. The plush salon is open only to gents, and aestheticians, called "lounge specialists" here, groom fingers and toes during luxurious nail treatments. During basic mani-pedi packages, these specialists remove jagged cuticles, buff nails, and trim and file them without using sandpaper or a cat's tongue. Add-ons include skin-softening paraffin treatments, foot and hand massages, and the gentle removal of calluses.
