In 1981, Rolf Babiel disembarked in New York City with $500 to his name, quickly transforming the cash sum into Hallo Berlin—the city's first German food cart. Two brick-and-mortar locations now bear the Hallo Berlin moniker, vending traditional German dishes such as marinated herrings and schnitzels. The midtown location—a New York magazine Critics' Pick—surrounds guests between yellow and red walls that resemble the German flag and patriotic lederhosen. According to the New York Times, the restaurant's authentic fare "goes perfectly with the selection of German beers," which includes labels such as München, Kölsch, and Spaten.

Under the birdie- and albatross-watching eyes of PGA professionals, Afton's spacious course is a verdant putter-pendulating utopia nestled in the majestic foothills of the Catskill Mountains. Lushly colored foliage enwraps swing sultans and novices in a euphoric environment for their driven bouts of spheroid-slamming, and a recently installed Rain Bird irrigation system boasts more than 200 sprinkler heads for watering the greens, fairways, and golf-ball-eating Venus fly traps sprouting throughout the course. Game-induced tummy quakes can be placated at the public clubhouse overlooking the green—with savory salad, deli, and grill fare ($3.50–$7.50) available for purchase and for putting off the outdoor patio.

With a stable of American Saddlebred and Morgan horses, China Pointe Stables instructs students in saddle-seat, hunt-seat, and western riding styles in a friendly, confidence-building atmosphere. Pupils start lessons with an interview and evaluation, determining equestrian skills and prior experience. Quiet-natured equines level learning curves for neophyte riders, and more spirited horses provide a fitting challenge for experienced jockeys. New students start their lessons by learning to mount their steeds, learning the basics of how to climb into a saddle and use the reins. After the evaluation, students will either walk the horse with the instructor's guidance or ride along the indoor track. Professional or more experienced riders will receive advice on improving their skills along with an evaluation of getaway chances when pursuing Segway-mounted cops trying to issue speeding tickets.
