What was the inspiration for starting this business?
Stan and Joanne started making wine ... to carry on the family tradition of home winemaking, but they had a lot of learning to do as they went through the process. After years of experimenting at home, they tried making wine at one of the Vintner's Circle locations. They couldn't believe how easy it was to make wine and how each batch always came out tasting great. Joanne and Stan decided to open a location here in NEPA to share their experience with new and experienced winemakers here.
What?s your favorite part about your job?
We love spending time with our customers and helping them make a great tasting wine. It's fantastic to see groups of family and friends come in together and really enjoy their experience here, whether they are making wine or attending one of our classes or events. Stan and Joanne's favorite event by far is the Sangria Challenge. They love seeing how much fun the teams have in the trivia challenge and how creative the teams get in building their Sangria and designing their labels.
As you approach it, Castel Grisch Winery & Restaurant looks like nothing so much as a quaint farm. Get closer, though, and you'll start to notice hints of the winery within. There's the pyramid of dark wood wine barrels out front, for instance, or the wine-colored carpet in the dining room. That same room has the biggest clue of all: the menu, featuring wines from the Chancellor, a fruity red, to a Riesling fermented in stainless steel.
Castel Grisch's wine doesn't just come in bottles and the glasses?it crops up on the food menu, too, flavoring one of the cheese fondues. And when the chefs aren't melting cheese, they're whipping up hearty sandwiches stuffed with roast beef, Cajun-spiced turkey, or a bratwurst simmered in brown beer. Guests eat these hearty meals in a dining room brightened by white tablecloths or, when the weather's warm and the grapes are warbling, on a back patio overlooking the fields.
Casual Elegance is how I like to describe Atwater. We are serious about our wine, but not snobbish about it. You can come in with friends and have a great tasting and then picnic outside or you can pick our brains and we can educate you about our area and business in depth. We will cater the tasting to your likes.
When she opened Elbridge Wellness Etc., Melinda Chilson hoped to treat existing wellness conditions and educate the community on nutritional and naturopathic methods aimed at improving quality of life. Today, she and her crew of experts see this vision through with karate, Zumba, and yoga classes alongside personal wellness counseling and reiki services. To help their clients bring healthful practices home with them, the staff stocks supplements and administers holistic pet-care services.
As stunning fall colors settle into the leaves of Saratoga County, beer lovers gather at the Malta Drive-In to celebrate the changing of the season with 27 different German and seasonal fall craft beers. Traditional German food complements a wide selection of American seasonal favorites, such as the Fall Summit ale from Peak Organic Brewing Company and the traditional Oktoberfest beer produced yearly by the Spaten brewery. The organizers endeavor to entertain more than taste buds, arranging live musical performances throughout the day from German accordion player Herb Liebenhagen, Saratoga favorite Headband Jack, and the Bluz House Rockers. Visitors also partake in games and contests such as Best Brat Costume or Who Smells the Most Like Cabbage.
