Shielded in JT Spectra Thermal Goggles and armed with Tippman 98s and Tippman A5s, paintball combatants rush through Ithaca Paintball and Recreation's fields and crouch in its bunkers, firing colorful orbs at unwitting opponents. The facility supplies players with rental or purchasable gear to use while working their way through the wooded field's buildings or fire rounds on a seven-person speedball field. Around Halloween, Ithaca Paintball and Recreation transforms its acreage into XScream, where gun-toting guests eliminate zombie-impersonating actors and levitating Renaissance portraits from its haunted woods.
Black lights spill across an indoor arena, casting a fluorescent glow over a squadron of laser-tag players as they wait silently for the start of a new round. Suddenly, fast-paced music blares and the air is filled with more flashes of red than a confused stoplight. Friendly battles like these are everyday occurrences at Fun Station. The sprawling family-centric center houses everything from air hockey, to skee-ball, to a miniature bowling alley. Laughter emerges from within colliding bumper cars, while pizza and hotdogs anchor the snack shop's menu. The family attractions also extend outside, where visitors are often found settling land disputes at a miniature-golf course or speed across a tire-lined go-kart track.
The Adventure Center at Skytop Lodge sits high in the forests of the Pocono Mountains, spanning nearly 6,000 acres that include zipline courses, Old West–themed paintball fields, and a rock-climbing wall more than 30 feet tall. There's also an onsite golf course, where golfers can practice their swings on 18 holes arranged to resemble Arnold Palmer's face. In addition to these land-based adventures, customers can kayak or cast out for rainbow trout or bass on one of the pine-fringed lakes.
After a day of recreation, visitors can head to the lodge. The comfy accommodations let customers recharge, and offer access to a swimming pool and full-service spa, where therapists soothe muscles with aromatherapy massages and shiatsu or lavender-infused reflexology treatments.
Soldiers dart across Combat Zone Paintball Park’s grassy outdoor field, fighting for a single, noble purpose: to splatter their opponents with brightly colored paint. To prepare for play, participants can rent gear from an onsite shop, which doles out paintball guns, masks, and CO2 canisters, or bring their own paintballs produced by their malfunctioning bouncy-ball factory.
Players at NVP Paintball wreak colorful havoc across two speedball courses during weekly skirmishes. A massive indoor arena houses the action during winter months, keeping harsh elements and battle-tested yetis away from combatants as they unload paintballs on nearby frenemies. Padded Turf XL flooring simulates the experience of playing on grass, and an upper-level viewing area gives onlookers an overhead view of every match. On the outdoor field, players duck behind strategically placed inflatable covers stationed on blue astroturf. Between matches, players can retire to the pro shop to peruse new equipment or grease their ammo hoppers with nacho cheese from the snack bar.
