Here, trainers help clients shape up with boot camp and prep for 5K races with an eight-week program, and blend a customized selection of exercises as they helm personalized one-on-one training sessions. In the facility's two classrooms, instructors lead a challenging combination of yoga and Pilates, as well as variations on Zumba that incorporate maraca-like toning sticks and chairs. Pure Barre's first-ever class was held in a basement with no clients, signs, or even a bathroom. Little more than a pipe dream beneath pipes, it nevertheless endured, thanks to the passion of founder Carrie Rezabek Dorr. Her drive, and the quality of the workout, led the business to grow to more than 230 studios worldwide, including two Tulsa locations. Megan, co-owner of the Tulsa branch, says she and a friend discovered the class in Dallas, then turned to the workout's DVDs for more. Soon they noticed their bodies changing while enjoying the workout's energetic music and decided they wanted to share the ballet-inspired exercises with their community. After the first two weeks of being open, they knew they'd made a positive impact when a client popped in to say: "I have been working out with a personal trainer for over two months with little results, [yet] I have been taking Purre Barre for two weeks and have lost three inches and six pounds." With clients of all ages and fitness levels participating, Megan and her team hope they can help other clients reach their fitness goals, too.

The original barre workouts began in 1959, when German ballet dancer Lotte Berk injured her back and required rehab. She decided to combine her ballet barre work with her rehab exercises and, thus, one of the most effective workout programs was born. Sculpt Tulsa's Marlene Martindale, inspired by her lifetime of marathon running, triathlons, and group exercise instruction, has improved upon the original barre method by incorporating her personal training and rehabilitation experience. Sculpt Barre combines traditional barre exercises with Pilates for targeted, small muscular movements. This works muscles that are often neglected by other exercise programs. Martindale's clients can look forward to toned abs, a lifted butt, stronger ankles, and pinkie fingers that can chop through taut floss. Also available are TRX classes, which use gravity and body weight resistance to increase balance, coordination, and flexibility while strengthening the core muscles.
