The photos we leave behind may be the only way for future generations to see the styles and personalities we bear. That’s why the professional makeup artists and photographers at Glamour Shots strive to capture the true essence of a person with their shoots. Whether commemorating a milestone event or a successful trip to the grocery store, each session begins with the shop’s signature full airbrush and style makeover, which works to prevent unwanted shine while imparting a chic aesthetic. Makeup artists tailor looks to the purpose of the shoot, imparting children with a red-cheeked glow and boudoir subjects with a dark, seductive color palette.
Photographers encourage everyone to bring a few outfits and props from home, allowing them to give each photo shoot an individualized touch without snapping close-ups of their subjects’ fingerprints. Clients get to see the photos immediately so they can approve the looks and order their favorite shots in the form of pictures, phone cases, or calendars. A professional lab then prints out the chosen items using a range of color finishes—including colorization to make one color pop and the company's signature Glamour Touch retouching—onto made-to-last Kodak paper.
Laura Monahan comes from an artistic family, and spent her youth practicing sculpture, oil painting, pottery, and what turned out to be her ultimate passion: photography. Her ability to preserve candid moments has left an indelible impression—she has a published portfolio on three continents and product lines appearing at national retailers such as Hallmark and JCPenney. Laura’s photo shoots always take place outdoors, capturing newborns, older kids, families, and makeshift popsicle-stick families in soft, natural lighting and poses that never appear unnatural. Her settings span the country from San Diego’s foamy beaches to Denver’s red-rock sunsets and into the Midwest’s autumn leaves.
A gorgeous woman balancing atop a rustic railroad tie. A cool guy in sunglasses leaning against a brick wall. A washed out image of a woman reclining on cement stairs. These aren't the liner notes of every Billy Joel album ever, though their professional-grade quality is on par. Rather, these unique shots come from LEO Pictures' impressive portfolio. Most of the shots contain urban flourishes, as well as vibrant color schemes that allow certain features, such as red lips or a bright green shirt, to pop. The master shutterbug behind these attractive, delightfully off-kilter kodachromes is Avesta Jowkar, who lends his compositional eye to weddings, engagement announcements, high school senior portraits, family portraits, and kid sessions.
The sharp-eyed shutterbugs at Flash Digital Portraits take a timely and convenient approach to photography, but they never skimp on creativity. Inside their studios, flash bulbs pop as the photographer captures grins from a wide range of subjects including infants, high-school seniors, and entire families. To further personalize sessions, clients can choose from a variety of props and plenty of colorful backgrounds. They can even bring special items and mementos from home such as a favorite stuffed animal or a birthday cake. After the shutters snap for the final time, Flash Portraits’ photo technicians get to work on customizing the results, outfitting collages with unique borders and other enhancements.
Once infatuated with landscape photography, Ty Fleming's approach to his craft changed when his black lab was diagnosed with cancer. He began taking pictures of his dog as a means of celebrating his life, and he soon was snapping portraits of all of his pets: four dogs, three cats, and two turtles. Ty formed Minnesota Pet Photography as a way to channel his passion for photography and his compassion for all pets.
