The Club at Harper's Point encompasses the essentials for wellness and entertainment, including tennis courts, a fitness center, and a pool exclusively for adults. The tennis courts span both indoor and outdoor acreage, with 10 sheltered courts sporting a cushy DecoTurf that gently buoys balls, feet, and dropped crystal vases. Outside, 11 HarTru Sports soft courts host rapid-fire matches and classes or camps for all ages amid shaded gazebos. In the fitness center, certified personal trainers whip bodies into shape atop Cybex and Hammer strength equipment, as well as treadmills and ellipticals equipped with TVs. Fitness 3K is the brainchild of Chideha Warner, who in addition to holding certifications from the International Sports Sciences Association and USA Boxing and Boxing Fitness Institute, has trained numerous professional athletes. He and his staff aim to conquer obesity through one-on-one programs that combine cardiovascular and strength training regimens with nutrition guidelines. Instructors also lead high-energy cardio boxing and boot camp classes, and increase speed and agility with sports performance training.
For Cincinnati natives James T. Lutz, MD, and Daniel L. Buchanan, DC, the inspiration to help others lose weight came not from classrooms but from discussions with patients. James' work as the medical director of Bethesda Hospital's Weight Control for Life program showed him the trouble many patients have maintaining weight loss. Ashley Wentzel, a former Division I soccer MVP, and Jared Alexander, an avid athlete and business-school graduate, combined their industry savvy and passion for physical health to cofound Star Fitness Solutions. As an ACSM-certified personal trainer, Wentzel works as the chief fitness offer, harnessing positive energy and exercise know-how to rally and push her students in Star's boot-camp and small-group training programs. Certified trainers also helm sports-performance and personal-training sessions, relying on more focused routines to reshape physiques based on each client's desire to first throw and then crush a basketball. By building a rapport with their trainees, the team at Star Fitness avoids the detached atmosphere of giant gyms and hopes to successfully inspire lifestyle changes for lasting wellness.
