Breakthrough Fitness Center keeps minds and bodies in tune and toned with a full schedule of active group-fitness classes led by energy-laden instructors. Yoga sessions stretch limbs and soothe stress by emphasizing deep breathing and core balance. Pedal past virtual plains and digital hills in spinning class, a stationary cycling tour that mobilizes the cardiovascular system into its own spandex-clad road-racing team. Pilates is a core-strengthening regimen that aligns and firms the body. All classes are helmed by the motivational prowess of a highly trained teacher, letting students experience the benefits of an animate instructor instead of a treadmill with eyes drawn on it.
Artist Uncorked's instructors draw upon classical art education, fashion experience, and other skills to help eager pupils of all ages and experience levels unfurl vibrant scenes across provided canvases. Patrons can break out a bottle of wine during any of the two-hour weekday classes to fuel creative inspiration without lassoing muses. Local artists lead sessions that elucidate the steps necessary to produce a 16"x20" canvas rendition of works of art such as the cool-hued Blue Crabs painting or the impressionistic Ocean Abstract work. Artist Uncorked arms students with paintbrushes, acrylic paints, aprons, canvases, and corkscrews. Students may bring their finished art pieces home to adorn bare mantelpieces or otherwise dull lumberjack resumés.
Art is in Bloom's veteran brush-wielder, Dorothy Howard, helps students to hone their talents with expert painterly techniques during three-hour painting classes. Spreading easily workable acrylic hues across their 16"x20" canvascapes, budding artists channel their inherent creativity into vivid representations of still-life scenes, swirling abstract images, or neo-cubist grocery lists. Dorothy fosters artistic development for painters of all skill levels and imparts constructive criticism to guide students in the right direction, like a parent gently nudging apprehensive children down a profoundly fun waterslide. The cost of the class covers all the materials required for each painter to create an individual take-home masterwork, though students are allowed to bring their own supply of inspiration juice from home in the form of beer or wine, for which the studio will provide a corkscrew.
Ginny and Mark Taylor spent their college years chasing artistic pursuits—she majored in fine arts, while he tinkered with wood, clay, and stained-glass projects. As the owners of IDEA Studio, the Taylors combine their artistic expertise with a passion for working with children, a concept that’s given way to sessions where kids and adults can practice their beloved crafts or sample new disciplines. During age-appropriate six-week KidzArt sessions, youngsters from pre-K to middle school use more than 60 mediums such as watercolors, clay, and clocks melted in easy-bake ovens to construct two-, three-, and four-dimensional works. IDEA Studio also hosts personalized sessions for homeschooled children, one-week summer camps, and Kidz Nights, where youngsters enjoy themed lessons while snacking on healthy foods. Adults, meanwhile, can take their own artistic journey in classes and workshops with subjects that include drawing, stained glass, and sculpture, or they can work on long-term projects during open studio hours.
The YMCA is a cause-driven organization that is for youth development, for healthy living and for social responsibility. That?s because a strong community can only be achieved when we invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors. All of our YMCA of Coastal Georgia locations embody these three values so that everyone regardless of age, gender or income is given the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive at the Y. With a variety of group fitness classes ranging from Zumba to family fit nights, spin classes to TRX and everything in between, you?re sure to find what you?re looking for at the YMCA! Our staff pumps up adult fitness regimens with aquatic fitness and boot-camp classes, basketball courts, personal-training sessions and so much more. We?ve also filled our fitness centers with free weights, cardio equipment, and weight machines. When they?re not helping adults trim down waistlines during Brazilian-jujitsu, cycling, and aerobics classes, staff members are getting back in touch with their inner children. They stimulate imagination, mental development, and growth as they lead children?s day camps, after-school programs, and numerous sports offerings.
