Keith Fox's love for yoga is inspiringly contagious. Calling upon more than 500 hours spent earning his Experienced Professional Level Yoga Alliance Teacher title, he has amassed a student following at multiple studio locations. Press sources such as Atlantic Ave magazine and the Sun Sentinel have highlighted his dedication to the practice after observing his popular live-music classes at the Colony Hotel. His wife, Kelly, also teaches yoga, and his teenage daughter, Ally—a yoga devotee since age 3—leads seminars for children. Keith's reach even extends to the shores of Costa Rica. He travels there to lead intensive yoga workshops for underprivileged populations, who can receive the art's calming effects through his and Kelly's nonprofit, the MahaShakti Foundation.
At YogaFox, Keith's classes focus on his own brand of empowerment yoga, which syncs Vinyasa-style poses and breathing patterns to access self-awareness. He hopes that his pupils can carry the inner balance that they achieve over to everyday living, channeling yoga's mental centering techniques to get through stressful days assembling penny-farthing bells at the farthing factory.
In the Eastern philosophy to which Wisdom Yoga Wellness adheres, “in good health” doesn't merely mean “not sick”; it means that your chakras, or energy flows, are constantly in balance. According to this belief system, one way to achieve this balance is through Thai yoga therapy, which opens the body's chakras for harmonization. The center's certified instructors not only help their students achieve this harmonious state but also encourage them to burn calories during vigorous Vinyasa classes. Unlike libraries with coin-operated atlases, the instructors are generous with their knowledge; they also lead yoga teacher trainings for aspiring instructors and workshops that allow students to explore different yoga styles.
Though the instructors at Brazilates teach classic techniques for toning the stomach and achieving a lean dancer's figure, they also honor the power of curves. As a testament to that, their Brazilian Butt Lift classes craft shapely rears with a combination of dance moves and lower-body exercises. As they demonstrate pliés and squats, they adjust their maneuvers to each student's skill level, fostering a compassionate space for beginners and regulars alike.
Their other classes focus on the four tenets of Pilates: stability, strength, stretch, and stamina. With wall-mounted springboards contributing resistance, groups work through routines that align backbones, enhance balance, and make it easier to dress as a slinky for Halloween. The curriculum covers mat Pilates, yoga, and cardio Brazilates—an energetic class that utilizes barres for leverage during ballet and jazz aerobics.
Brazilates is devoted to the strengthening of minds as well as muscles. Guests who want to flex their wits can attend the studio's improvisational acting classes, whereas those who want to let go of their mental stress can benefit from a massage.
Caution CrossFit founder Dominick Maurici believes that CrossFit training is, as he puts it on his website, a “way of life and well being. It’s the fitness that you create out of yourself.” No stranger to the pursuit of physical fitness, Maurici spent his high-school years competing in soccer and football before going on to earn a black belt in tae kwon do. The health benefits and jealous looks he received from bathing-suit mannequins taught him the rewards of training in multiple disciplines. When he found the CrossFit program, he felt right at home with the varied and multidimensional exercise form. He even became a certified CrossFit trainer and went on to compete against other leading instructors across the southwest in the CrossFit Games.
As the Caution CrossFit skull and biohazard logo stares down from the cinder-brick walls of their practice space, Maurici and his team lead students through an ever-changing workout of the day. Full of intensified circuit training, their workouts make use of the facilities multiple rowing machines, Olympic barbells, kettlebells, jump ropes, plyometric boxes, and suspension rings. In keeping with Maurici’s love of training across multiple disciplines, the studio now offers yoga instruction as well.
Established by the peace purveyors at Chi Spa, Chi Yoga Center's instructors motivate students of all ages and skill levels to seek inner serenity while building strong and limber bodies. A welcome area greets feet with a natural sea grass carpet, leading guests into the studio, which is outfitted in pale green tones and a mirrored wall that reflects the Buddha art displayed on the opposite side. Here, instructors guide pupils through various yoga styles such as Hatha, Vinyasa, and Sivananda. They also teach Iron yoga, which helps guests improve their flexibility with yoga and build lean muscle mass with weight training drills, such as bench-pressing other yogis.
Demonstrating a commitment to preserving the environment and a sense of community, the instructors offer incentives for traveling by bicycle or foot or contributing a charitable donation such as toys, household items, and nonperishable foods.
