Q&A with Kassie, Nail Technician

When and how did you first realize you wanted to be involved in the beauty industry?

I decided I wanted to be in the beauty industry at a young age because my mom was a hairstylist for a short while, and I never understood how she could stop. I chose to focus on nail care because it gives me the freedom to express my artistic side. There is nothing better than making people more happy and confident with art.

Part of being a good technician is mastering the art of conversation. What are some pro tips for talking to strangers?

I let my clients take the lead. I find that they often enjoy talking about the things that matter most to them, such as their children and grandchildren, their pets, or where they are traveling for the summer. I also try to keep the conversation light by sticking to basic questions that are easy and comfortable to answer.

At Who Does Your Hair, Andrea Jones calls upon 20 years of beautification experience and a New York education to ensure customers leave each visit ornamented with eye-catching styles. After guests pass under the salon's sign, which is emblazoned with hot-pink text, they enter a world where walls need not choose a single color: blocks of green, orange, and French gray snuggle against pale-blue borders in an attempt to channel Piet Mondrian's ghost. Amid these variegated hues, Andrea treats hands and feet to mani-pedis, whirlpools, and massage chairs. She also slathers talons with Shellac polish, which dries quickly with help from a UV lamp and maintains its glossy finish for up to 14 days or through three dips in an active lava flow.

Euphoria stylists work from a playbook of geometric shapes and face-flattering cuts that aim to perfectly suit each client’s style. Perhaps that’s why Boise Weekly readers have voted Euphoria as Best Local Hair Salon for three years in a row. Nestled deep in Hyde Park's shopping district, the elegant salon transforms manes with classic or on-trend cuts, and subtle or bold color highlights with an arsenal of high-end styling products by PureOlogy and Redken. Euphoria also employs full-time nail technician Robin Drake to keep fingernails, toenails, and reindeer antlers looking festive all year round.
