There once was a time where the only way to get a gilded glow was to expose skin to harmful UV rays. Thanks to advances in spray-tan technology, the staff members at Bronze Ambition Custom Airbrush Tanning have honed their skills at the safe, effective alternative—sunless tanning. These trained professionals use the top-of-the-line South Seas solution, which coats the skin with a customized hue tailored to each client's individual skin tone. The result is a tan that looks natural and lasts for up to 10 days. A trip to Bronze Ambition goes by as quickly as the time Einstein took his SATs, as the application of formula can take as little as five minutes.

Five tattoo artists make River City Tattoo their sacred studio, and each one has an inking style all their own. A quick look at the team's portfolio highlights these subtle differences. Adam Marton, for example, emblazons skin with colors from across the spectrum, while Ashly's monochrome markings express just as much in black and white. Ranging from abstract to classic?and everything in between?the team's eclectic designs are nonetheless unified by the artists' dedication to self-expression. Of course, sometimes those expressions won't make sense in the future's arcane hieroglyphic language, so River city can also remove existing tattoos permanently.

The seasoned select stylists of A New Identity Hair Salon morph outmoded ’dos into fashionable follicles. Treat stressed strands to a tranquilizing shampoo, cut, and style ($20/men, $33/women), or clear nesting sparrows out of kid coifs with a shampoo and cut ($8–$14). Waxing treatments manicure unwelcome brush, such as upon the lips ($7), eyebrows ($10), or entire face ($20). A New Identity’s experienced staffers also administer identity-changing perms ($75+), color-faded fringe ($45+), or highlights ($50+) to mix up monochromatic manes. A youthful-looking head often translates into a youthful strut and a plethora of compliments from friends, strangers, and the insides of hats.

Effleurage: The Foundation of Relaxation Swedish massage relies largely on a technique known as effleurage. Learn how it zaps stress with Groupon's peek at this basic stroke. Effleurage is the glue that holds a Swedish massage together. Its smooth, gliding strokes may not deliver much pressure?the word itself is taken from a French verb that means "to touch lightly"?but the technique simultaneously soothes the nerves, boosts circulation, and allows the massage therapist to identify problem zones that need extra attention. Because effleurage doubles as an assessment tool, many therapists begin each massage with it, usually by gliding their open palms lightly across the body to feel for tense spots and potholes while acclimating the client to their touch. This form of effleurage is known as "superficial," and it serves a soothing prelude, epilogue, and transitional movement between deeper, more focused kneading. A slightly more forceful style of effleurage is known as "deep effleurage." This form still uses gliding strokes, only with more pressure, as the therapist aims to stretch out the muscle tissue and the web of connective tissue that covers it. Therapists will generally direct the first part of their deep-effleurage stroke towards the heart, finishing with a lighter return stroke away from it. Not only does this warm up tissues for deeper muscle work, but it can also speed up the movement of blood and lymph fluid. This boost in circulation can help drain fluid from injured areas, reducing painful pressure while also releasing endorphins that further relax the entire body.
