Tim and his wife Georgia ran a pizza place for 20 years before deciding to refocus their restaurant around authentic Greek cuisine. The transition paid off: Esperia Grill was named "Best Greek Restaurant 2013" by Boston magazine, who praised the family-owned restaurant's spinach pies, gyros, keftedes (Greek-style meatballs), and tzatziki. The menu covers everything from beef kabobs and baked lamb shanks to grilled Mediterranean paninis, and also includes a number of Greek wines pressed from the finest olives.
Marilda Kocibelli paints leaves all day. Rather than brushes and pigments, however, her tools are steamed milk and coffee. She runs Dolce Vita Caf?, a casual oasis of handcrafted espresso drinks, cozy little tables, and sandwiches and pastries. Marilda and her staff serve hot, Italian-inspired paninis, such as the carmine, with fresh mozzarella and prosciutto, as well as the tonno siciliano, featuring imported tuna. Hot mugs of lattes and dark-roast coffee bookend meals. The cafe also conveniently provides free wireless Internet.
Allston earned the moniker "Rock City" for its vibrant live music scene, but Rock City Pizza is hoping to change the meaning of that phrase. Here, the nickname refers to a lineup of pizza toppings that includes onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, olives, and pepperoni. That's the classic "Rock City" order, but the rest of the restaurant's set list delves into more inventive territories. The Steak Bomb pizza puts shaved steak over melted cheese, while the Buffalo Chicken trades tomato sauce for buffalo sauce.
Beyond these pies, Rock City Pizza doles out cold and hot Italian subs along with burgers and pasta such as ziti alfredo with chicken and broccoli, also known as the chicken of vegetables. The menu presents ample options for entrees, but there's only one way to go for dessert: a plate of fried dough.
Papa John's has carefully crafted a menu of specialty pizzas to satisfy any taste or mouth shape. Order a Hawaiian BBQ Chicken, or go all-out and get The Works, a top-heavy combination of pepperoni, ham, spicy Italian sausage, fresh-sliced onions, green peppers, gourmet baby portabella mushrooms, and ripe black olives. Satisfy herbivores and herbivoyeurs with a Tuscan Six-Cheese or Garden Fresh pie. The full list of specialty pizzas includes several more; take the hassle out of haggling over individual ingredients and boldly cast your straight-ticket ballot for the pizza party that your conscious dictates.

La Befana Pizzeria's staff hand-tosses dough and smashes ripe, Northern California tomatoes to create edible palettes of Neapolitan style pizza for an array of toppings. The cooks hand-roll dough daily and allow it to mature overnight for the best consistency and least mid-toss swearing. Pick up a thirst-slaking 12-ounce soda to wash down a couple of hunger-staving slices of cheese (a $5.95 value for combo). Customers can carve out a spot at the communal butcher-block table, befriending fellow diners or the parmesan-cheese shaker.
