AES Languages, or Adaptive Education Services, expands cultural horizons and crushes communication barriers with dynamic language programs for businesses and individual students. Experienced instructors teach tongues to pronounce delicate sonants and powerful plosives as they stretch minds toward fluency. Foreign-language book clubs and immersive trips to international locales boost familiarity with a country's language and customs and make navigating international conversation easier than paying a guide to make prewritten subtitles.
Professional bartenders teach in classrooms set up as fully functioning bars. The facilities present lifelike conditions for students to learn skills such as the proper shake and pour for a variety of cocktails, muddling raw ingredients, and getting the right amount of head on a draft beer. Courses also cover the technical elements of bartending, which may include setting up drink stations, understanding liquor laws and board-of-health requirements, and operating payment systems that accept both credit cards and gold ingots.
Fluent City's campuses train tongues in the basics and nuances of 10 languages through interactive group classes. Experienced professors introduce groups of students to vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation in French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, German, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, and Hebrew. Languages are divided based on students' incoming level of proficiency, and group courses run for a total of 20 hours. Although not included with the class, students can also meet with instructors in flexible private lessons tailored to each pupil's individual needs.
HablEspana transforms students into Español elocutionists with its Beginner Bootcamp classes, each taught by a native Spanish-speaking instructor. In less than one month, linguistic learners can turn graceless gibberish into speech as smooth as velvet that’s been through the blender. Each two-hour class encourages active participation and stimulates learning using audio-visual materials, Spanish TV segments, and music and video series. Classes remain personal since sizes range from three to eight students, or the ideal size for building a human pyramid. Students will receive handouts and materials in class, and may also choose to purchase a book recommended for the course ($20, not covered by this Groupon). Classes take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings.
The Boston Martial Arts Academy keeps participants engaged by combining classroom instruction with hand-to-hand, foot-to-foot, and face-to-mat demonstration classes and classroom lectures. Try out karate to get the Cobra Kais to leave you alone, or aikido to toss your opponent as easily as a used Kleenex. For more kosher kombat, learn Krav Maga like a member of the Israeli Defense Forces. Otherwise, spike your kicks with punches in tae kwon do, out-Keanu Keanu in kung fu, or learn how to pin another man to the ground and make him submit to you in Brazilian jiujitsu. You can also sample less-fighty disciplines such as capoeira and tai chi. Each participant must choose at least six classes to receive his or her certification at closing ceremonies.
Novelty & Special-event courses take place every Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. at the Boston location only. Students of the certification course also receive a laminated drink list and a detailed bartenders’ manual as a downloadable PDF.
