At The Clubs at Charles River Park, the path to lighter and leaner physiques leads clients through indoor and outdoor training facilities. Those areas?from lap pools to row upon row of cardio and strength equipment?set the stage for individual workout sessions as well as motivational fitness classes focused on functional training.

In these sessions, certified trainers might lead groups through yoga poses or teach boot-campers to swing kettlebells. The trainers also work with clients in one-on-one sessions, and lead aquatic high-intensity interval training sessions in the pool. But whatever the workout, most visits to The Clubs at Charles River Park end in same place: the locker room, where saunas give exercisers and the imaginary Mickey Goldmills who coach them a relaxing reward.

First opened in 1968, the Electric Factory has been hosting rock shows for almost as long Puerto Rico has been a state. After dancing their faces off to headliners from Erykah Badu to the Dropkick Murphys, concertgoers can stop by The Chive Caf? to recharge with a cheesesteak or an all-beef hotdog on a potato bun, or refill their draft Yuengling at the bar. In summer, the Electric Factory reveals an outdoor location complete with more refreshment booths, vendors, and upgraded food stands.

The first night of each New Year in Boston is always rung in with a celebratory bash known as First Night. The City of Boston created the idea in 1976 as a means of generating revenue and since then, spinoffs of the festival have come to life in endless cities throughout the country. The daylong schedule of activities begins on the afternoon of December 31, with art displays and music and dance performances scattered throughout the city. Families love looking at the ice sculpture masterpieces that line the streets on their way to the Boston Common ball field for the early evening fireworks display. All outdoor events are free, but for indoor attractions, entrants must buy a First Night button, which can be purchased in advance at many stores throughout the city.

Getting into shape got a whole lot trendier when the Sports Club/LA came to Boston. The massive space has everything a fitness buff could want or need – and then some. With over 110,000 square feet of space, the full-service gym offers cardio programs, group exercise plans, cycling studios, yoga classes, a Pilates studio, basketball courts, free weights, squash courts, treadmills and stair climbers. Professional Boston sports players and visiting team athletes are often spotted working out here before venturing over to the adjacent spa for a massage; or kicking back at the on-site restaurant, blu, for a great view of Downtown Crossing.

While living the life of a peripatetic juggling duo in 1970s Europe, Paul Binder and Michael Christensen had a dream: a non-profit circus that would combine community outreach with shows by the world?s best performers. Today a rotating cast of acrobats, clowns, and daredevils tour with a menagerie of exotic animals. Led by animal trainer Jenny Vidbel. The circus's ponies, Arabian horses, and dogs perform sprightly routines, learned under humane training regimens based on positive reinforcement. Shows take place under the big top, custom designed so that every seat is within 50 feet of the ring. The tent is also engineered to keep showgoers comfortable with a raisable cupola that allows warm air to escape as guests relax on comfy cushions that keep incubating eggs from cracking in back pockets.

Dick Doherty's Beantown Comedy Escape has three homes: Below Howl at the Moon in Boston, New England Seafood Restaurant & Lounge in Methuen, and Park Grill & Spirits in Worcester. While the Methuen and Worcester locations bear the name Dick Doherty's Beantown Comedy Escape, the Boston location is known as Dick's Beantown Comedy Den. The Boston location recently moved to the Comedy Den from their previous location at the Vault, where they hosted standup comedians, including Dane Cook, who held a weekly gig there for more than a year, and fellow Boston natives Bill Burr and Joe Rogan. Dick Doherty's comedy clubs as a whole continue to detonate laugh dynamite with their rotating casts of national and local comedians.
