We make this experience about more than just fitness. This is a lifestyle change and a way to grow as a person. We offer many different styles of yoga, and our instructors are here to challenge you in a safe manner.
What is the biggest mistake you see people make when trying to get fit on their own?
They lose momentum and they end up with injuries due to poor alignment.
What is a typical session of your program or class like for a student?
Our 60?75 minute classes feature different styles of yoga, such as vinyasa, ashtanga, restorative, kundalini, and Forrest.
We are the only locally-owned fitness center in the SW neighborhood of Boulder. With over 45 fitness classes, a large cardio and weight area, beautiful West-facing deck and cycling room, we have something for gym rats and gymphobics alike. Tikes Peak Daycare provides relief for our parent members.
Members at Curves, a fitness center designed exclusively for women, rotate around a circuit of hydraulic resistance machines designed to work with female bodies and promote weight loss, protect against osteoporosis, and deal with arthritis. An experienced trainer is always nearby to help to manage participants’ machine maneuvering and muscle making. Instead of fiddling with weight stacks and losing momentum, the hydraulic machines use participants' own body weight, fitness level, and aerodynamic water bottles to create resistance that matches abilities, decreasing the risk of soreness or injury. Because traditional lift-and-lower motions create bulky muscles, each machine uses push-and-pull motions to create toned, lean muscles perfect for crushing a grapefruit without looking like you can. Between each weight station lies a recovery board where ladies cool down while walking, jogging, or running in place to keep up momentum. With each workout warrior at a different station, the only competition that exists is with one's own burgeoning muscles.
At over 100 locations throughout the country, CorePower Yoga (CPY) invites students to creative classes that meld movement, breath, heat, and music into entrancing routines to energize the body and mind. Signature CPY classes are taught by approachable certified yoga instructors who lead students through dynamic, Vinyasa-style flows with demonstration and verbal cues, helping pupils of all experience levels tone core muscles and cultivate balance. CPY also offers teacher training and lifestyle programs to empower students to become yoga instructors or to just advance their individual practice. During construction of all its new studios, CPY strives to use recycled content, install eco-friendly and efficient mechanical systems, and ensure that any waste created doesn't end up in landfills or just piled in Mr. Henderson's garage.
On weekends, the 10 bowling lanes at The Connection in the UMC at UC Boulder glow under neon club lights so that guests can practice their dance moves as well as their curve balls. The lanes are also open throughout the week, ready to entertain students, townsfolk, and thrill-seeking armadillos who wander into the entertainment hub tucked into the University of Colorado Boulder's University Memorial Center. The center's eight regulation pool tables won the runner-up title for Best Pool on Colorado Daily’s CU & Boulder's Best 2011 list, and it also hosts pinball, foosball, and air hockey tables, a full wall of arcade machines, and games for Wii and other systems.
David Clair’s number one goal as the director and a trainer at Fitness For Living Boot Camps is to lead his patrons in having fun. He says, “If it is not fun, you won’t do it; you’ll always have an internal struggle staying motivated.” Here, the strong muscles, solid core, and slimmer waistline just happen to be a byproduct of having fun in the outdoors.
The trainers motivate clients to whip into shape with a series of smile-inducing fitness activities that often incorporate teamwork, including obstacle courses, games of soccer or basketball, and relay races. To further hone in on flexibility, strength, and balance training, campers complete a high-intensity regimen of CrossFit, TRX suspension, and Tabata training, interspersed with heaving sand bags and jumping rope. Alternatively, the Powerfit yoga camps take a blend of flowing Vinyasa-style yoga poses and Pilates techniques to the outdoors. The sessions focus on toning core muscles and building strength and flexibility. The trainers also help clients slim down with nutrition tips and meal-plan programs, and send out motivating emails that have nothing to do with money-hungry princes.
