Perky’s Pizza rustles up a variety of traditional and imaginative pizzas for famished families. With the family combo meal, banqueting broods choose one large signature pizza from Perky's Pizza's doughy roster, relieving a meat-masticating hankering with the double-cheeseburger deluxe, loaded with crispy bacon, hearty beef, and zesty barbecue sauce, or floating away on the Maui Wowie, which features chicken and sweet pineapple basking in a beach of red sauce. Choosy chowhounds point their noses toward the also-included one-topping pizza, selecting a meat, vegetable, or fat-free mineral to add sustenance. Six breadsticks take a dip in garlic or cinnamon before joining the culinary crew, and a troop of 12 chicken wings marches into position while chanting fight songs before being defeated by mercenary molars. Like bookends, a family-sized garden salad and dessert support the meal on either end.
The kempt, bluegrass fairways of Manteno Golf Club and Learning Center’s 18-hole course connect across 6,462 yards of relatively flat, golfer-friendly terrain. Groves of trees stand at the edges of each short-grass corridor, their outstretched branches and open catcher’s mitts ready to snag any errant drive. Each hole concludes on the well-clipped bent grass of the course’s putting surfaces, which create consistent but slick fast-breaking putts. In addition, players must draw, fade, or skip balls over and around water hazards that come into play on seven holes. An onsite driving range warms up muscles before rounds, and the center’s restaurant and pub refuels weary bodies after a day of birdie-hunting and 9-iron jousting. Course at a Glance: * 18-hole, par 72 course * Length of 6,462 yards from the farthest tees * Course rating of 70.8 from the farthest tees * Slope rating of 120 from the farthest tees * Four tee options
From May until winter, the USHPA-certified instructors of Hang Glide Chicago spend their weekends accompanying passengers on tandem hang-gliding flights. Flight school sessions acclimate beginners to the sport before they board gliders, which are then towed into the air by a small plane. As flyers are released for their 2,500-foot free flight, they can steer their glider or let instructors guide the way as they take in the surrounding vistas. Students are welcome to bring their own cameras (wrist straps are recommended) or arrange to have their flight recorded by Hang Glide?s HD-panoramic video equipment or their instructor?s photographic memory. Flights take place from sunrise to sunset, and patrons can extend their experience by taking advantage of facilities that include camping grounds, bathrooms with showers, and a lake for kayaking or catch-and-release fishing.
