At Murray Hill Health & Racquet Club, the mission is simple: Look and feel better. The route you take in getting there, though, is completely up to you. Since 1972, the club has offered guests and members a varied selection of fitness opportunities. Today, it features cardio machines equipped with individual TVs, strength-training gear, and more than 50 large-group classes. And the trainers provide sports-specific training with year-round golf and tennis programs. For added convenience, the club also hosts childcare services, which means parents don't need to find a babysitter.
The high ceilings at Courtside Racquet Club, located on Route 31 South in Lebanon, hang above a row of six indoor hard tennis courts. The staff of experienced instructors preside over a full slate of player-development programs for adults, juniors, and kids as young as 3 years old. The club also hosts USTA tournaments and events that blur the line between competitive and social, such as the Beer and Balls doubles league. After a three-set match or a particularly tough practice session, members and their guests can cool off at the outdoor pool. A lounge, men's and women's locker rooms, and a full-service tennis shop are also available.
In building a sandcastle, you take one thing—sand—and mold it into something completely unexpected—a castle. Sandcastle Billiards is no different. Once a golf warehouse, the facility was transformed into an upscale billiards parlor, complete with 18 billiards tables, ping-pong, and foosball. The revamped space also features other games, such as dominoes, backgammon, and chess, as well as flat-screen TVs and music.
Drawing on years of coaching experience, the racquet experts at TennisFun help their charges improve at the sport. Through exercises, drills, and matches, students improve their technique. The coaches design lessons for beginners, experts, and golden retrievers preparing to audition for the next Air Bud movie.
Centercourt Athletic Club of Morristown has been named a USTA Regional Training Center and it's easy to see why. Rather than shooing pigeons off public park courts, players at Centercourt can swing their racquets on 8 climate-controlled indoor Rebound Ace courts, 12 outdoor Har-Tru courts and 4 year-round platform tennis courts. And when winter comes, the Har-Tru courts are covered by a climate-controlled dome, so players have access to 20 indoor courts as the snow falls. After matches, players can retire to the field house and clubhouse to relax in overstuffed leather chairs, grab some food at the café, and shoot a game of pool.
Whether training for a tournament or learning the rules for the first time, tennis players have plenty to love about the Pennsbury Racquet Club. Nine indoor courts, each newly resurfaced and illuminated with extra-bright, eco-friendly lighting, invite players to test their skills against each other, a ball machine, or the disapproving sports announcer in their head. To take players' games to the next level, USPTA- and PTR-certified coaches, some with more than 25 years of experience, offer private and semi-private lessons. There's also an on-site racket repair center, where players can get their equipment restrung and customized by a professional tech who's worked for Andre Agassi, Andy Roddick, and Maria Sharapova.
