Armed with extensive training and an in-depth understanding of the Canon brand’s cameras and optical advances since 1973, stalwart instructors unveil the inner workings of DSLRs for new photographers of all ages. They hold intensive five-hour, hands-on workshops in hotels, zoos, and boutique pet hotels to give attendees a practical understanding of manual camera basics. Over the course of each workshop, they demonstrate and let students practice controlling lens exposure; using the mode dial; and selecting proper lenses for shooting moving objects, shooting in various levels of light, or catching candids of ghosts brushing their teeth. To complement the hands-on instruction, teachers also answer any questions to further prepare attendees for varied camera use.
The Hamilton Thunderbirds, a shining star in the 92-year-old Intercounty Baseball League's galaxy, electrify baseball fans with a slate of matches against teams sourced from all corners of Ontario. The Thunderbirds, led by batting ace Chris Piano, take on the league-leading Barrie Baycats on May 29 and the second-place Brantford Red Sox on June 26, seeking to best their vaunted opponents in fielding, pitching, hitting, and downward-facing-dog poses. TBird Family Day Packs provide nine innings' worth of diversion for two adults and two children at the recently renovated, 2,700-seat Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium. While cheering on the diamond's denizens or practicing astral projection, groups can split four ballpark hot dogs and four drinks between them.
With a focus on instruction and eco-friendly outdoor exploration, Heritage River Canoe & Kayak Company readies adventurers to paddle the waters of the Grand and Nith Rivers aboard their canoes, kayaks, and rafts. The company is a member of the Ontario Recreational Canoeing and Kayaking Association and guides are certified in first aid and CPR, rendering them able to diffuse even the largest of pool noodle fights. Most have worked on or around the river for most of their lives and also take their passion to the land as resource interpreters and nature teachers when not leading trips. On the water, they orchestrate guided river tours at various times of day, night, and season, allowing participants to witness rare sights such as the local fishes’ Boxing Day hauls. Throughout each trip, they further the company’s partnership with Grand River Conservation Authority to help preserve the ecosystem of the river and its watershed.
The rental shop staffers, located in Brant Conservation Area, can supply solo customers with rental vessels or equip them for self-guided tours with any needed boats, paddles, and star charts. Those who prefer a hand in expeditions can experience structured paddling trips through introductory lessons and day camps or board rafts to fish for small-mouth bass and other river denizens. As they drift along the river, groups may encounter the area's many bold and beautiful residents, such as red-tailed hawks, ospreys, and bald eagles, all soaring above the rare Carolinian forests to their treetop condos.
Working with one of the country's most famous artists might cause some to rest on their laurels, but for Patricia Corsini, the years she spent as a personal assistant and photographer to renowned artist Robert Bateman only pushed her to keep exploring. Robert's sweet tooth led Patricia to culinary school at George Brown College, after which she became executive chef of Cook Gourmet Inc., where culinary experts show aspiring cooks how to craft elegant dishes.
In one of the company's many cooking classes, Sunshine en Provence courses lead students through each step of creating a bistro-style meal, and Some Like It Haute! sessions focus on stylish summertime meals. Classes are taught in a gourmet kitchen with a wide assembly of tools at students' disposal.
Cook Gourmet Inc.'s crew also caters events small and large, even providing personal-chef services for clients' dinner parties.
