The 12 full-size and three mini courts at Huber Tennis Ranch provide an immersive environment in which tennis players can practice strokes, perfect footwork, and improve fitness through classes and open-play times. Head instructor Tony Huber leads a teaching staff certified by the Professional Tennis Registry who instruct both adults and juniors on all aspects of the game, from serves and volleys to congratulating a vanquished ball machine on a valiant effort.
Adults participate in several class styles including programs for beginners or cardio tennis, which combines cardiovascular exercise with high-intensity repetition of on-court mechanics. Juniors can rise through a number of ranks based on age and ability, ranging from introductory classes for beginners to classes that train youngsters for high-level competition. While practicing their strokes, players draw inspiration from Tony's wife, Liezel, among the top-ranked professional women's doubles players in the world and Grand Slam champion of the Australian, French, and U.S. Opens as well as Wimbledon. Huber Tennis Ranch keeps a busy schedule of classes and drills; check the calendar for upcoming times.
Beyond Paradise Nursery spreads scores of succulents, shrubs, flowers, palm trees, and other seasonal plants across its spacious 3-acre facility. Homeowners can fill empty spaces with long-lasting blooms such as 3-gallon Double Knock Out roses ($20), or let the colorful petals of a 3-gallon loropetalum ($16) cheer up a lonely lawn ornament. Encore azaleas ($25 for a 3-gal.) turn their vibrant faces toward driveways and porches; the blossoms of Little John bottlebrushes ($20 for a 3-gal.) blow in the breeze like miniature pom-poms. During the holiday season, a variety of poinsettias will also be available.
Big Tex Tree Nurseries grows and maintains an assortment of trees and plants ready to be picked out, delivered, and plopped in soil. The knowledgeable staff helps customers find outdoor furnishings ranging from 15-gallon trees (starting at $19.99) to box trees (starting at $79.99), ideal for creating natural shade or supporting one-half of a hammock. Lawn-lovers can also accent their yards with smaller ornaments such as shrubs (starting at $1.99) and flowers (starting at $1.99). Patrons trying to decorate their yard can work with Big Tex's staff to design an aesthetically pleasing pattern, and for an additional fee (varies upon location), customers can have their purchases delivered and planted in their yard or their neighbor's pool.
The award-winning team at Turf’s Up specializes in maintaining lawns, but they can also renovate them with custom designs and make those visions reality with installation services. Their crews spruce up grass with fertilizer, replace it completely with new sod, or make sure it’s properly hydrated with new sprinkler heads. They can also add more agua to backyards by putting in water features such as ponds, stream, and fountains or in-ground swimming pools. In addition, their crews enhance home exteriors with flower beds and stone patios, which can be lit with exterior lighting displays or jars filled with tiny silver moons brought down to Earth via lasso.
The staff at the certified-organic Green Gate Farms instills adults and children with oodles of sustainable agricultural know-how during four-hour hands-on sessions. During Farmer for a Day sessions, youngsters tag along with farmers, helping them to feed the animals, sow seeds, and set up the farm stand. Kids frolic through a century-old hayloft and magic tree house and see firsthand where vegetables come from, which makes for less awkward discussions with parents.
