Although he had already been a successful stylist for years when it took place, the thing that solidified John Nelson as a top-notch professional was a training stint he spent in Rome, Italy, where he absorbed European techniques that he brought back to his own salon in the United States. Now guests of John Nelson Salon and Spa enjoy the benefit of these and other techniques—such as Global Keratin treatments and color services—within a workspace where lime-green accents punctuate slate-gray walls and floors. Chocolaty hues coat the spa area, where licensed technicians unpack pores with Alleia skincare products and drive away cellulite with herbal detoxifiers and repurposed breakup speeches.
Imagine Hair Studio owner Tamara possesses not one, but four certifications in salon services. The one from Great Lengths speaks to her ability as a hair-extension specialist, which explains why the studio can provide extensions of so many different kinds, from 100% human hair to flashy jewel colors to Swarovski-crystal strands. As a certified 3D Lashes eyelash-extension technician, Tamara also fortifies clients’ existing lashes with thick sets of faux strands. Like a moving script about a wisecracking meatball sub, her expertise attracts the attention of performers and models; Ke$ha, Felicia King, and Alexandria Dycus have entrusted their looks to Tamara.
The talent at Dolce's Salon is a result of each stylist undertaking a multitude of trainings in hair coloring, men?s and women?s hair design techniques, and even facial waxing. To help them create the perfect style, the staff uses Schwarzkopf Professional, Pureology, and Redken for Men hair products.
What’s your favorite part about your job?
What I love about my job is that it doesn't feel like work. Different personalities always make for an exciting work week. Each day brings new salon guests and a variety of services. But the most incredible feeling by far? Experiencing the guest's reaction when the big reveal happens and they love what they see. Completely rewarding.
When and how did you first develop a passion for your work?
It all started after graduating college. I had tried a few jobs in my field and nothing clicked. I didn't just want to have a job. I wanted to love the job I have. I knew I loved meeting new people and being creative, so I took a chance and enrolled in cosmetology school. I know every job has particular parts that are less than enjoyable, but to have a passion for what I do each and every day was my overall goal. I feel that the cosmetology industry has given me that. I couldn't imagine doing anything else.
What steps do you take to make your clients feel at ease?
From the moment a guest enters my salon, my goal is to make them feel welcome. I offer a warm introduction and let them know where they can set their belongings while they receive services. The guest is then given a luxurious robe or cape that is soft to the touch. While in the chair, I offer a hot or cold beverage and begin the consultation. I have a detailed and thorough conversation with each and every client to ensure the best possible outcome is achieved with their hair. I want my guests to feel 100% satisfied when they walk out of my door. I know guests work hard to be able to get their services and they deserve the best experience.
Anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?
I am a cosmetologist with over eight years of industry experience. I offer hair coloring, highlights, haircuts, blowouts/styling, waxing, lash applications, and makeup lessons and services. I have a passion for what I do and am excited to meet you, your family, and friends. I'd love to be your future hair and makeup guru.

The shelves stock your stalwart industry products such as Redken shampoos and conditioners, sure. But they also showcase All About You Salon & Day Spa’s signature green-tea shea body butter and cool-breeze sugar scrub. There’s even a 32-ounce bottle of coconut-mango moisturizing milk bath. With these elixirs and a total dedication to the art of beautification, the expert staff at the salon and spa works hard to revamp each client’s image from fingertip to toe tip via services ranging from spray tans to hair extensions. On any given day within the bustling salon, stylists can be found gilding hair in full highlights or trimming strands so they stop inadvertently typing keys on the keybo7ard. The salon also fields a team of aestheticians that whisk away unwanted hair with waxing treatments, deploys complexion-improving facials to rejuvenate skin, or lavishes soothing pedicures upon exhausted feet.
With Redken and sulfate-free products, Andrea Harbison cleanses, conditions, and arranges hair to protect tints and nourish tresses, flying solo in her own little nook at Sola Salons, which she dubbed La Dolce Vita. She takes this thorough, high-quality, and healthy approach to spread the stylistic sweet life after which that nook is named, and she measures her success by how well she listens to her clients and how happy they are with the results. In addition to haircuts and color, her menu of services includes perms, updos, and keratin treatments. When she isn't molding 'dos, Harbison prunes lips, brows, and faces with wax harvested ironically from wax sculptures of Groucho Marx.
