When Sharon Zilahy established Refresh Rejuvenating Spa, she hoped to channel the elegant, high-end spas she had frequented in her journeys beyond her small town. She chose a space adorned with checkerboard floors and white crown molding, and pumped up the opulence by adding Victorian-inspired lounge seating and framed art. Of course, image isn't everything, which is why she culled skin, hair, and cosmetic products from locales overseas, stocking her shelves with formulas from Kérastase Paris, Face Stockholm, and Sothys, a Parisian line of clinical skincare serums. Sothys plays a role in many of the spa's facial treatments, including the Secrets de Sothys—an anti-aging regimen that includes a facial massage and a silky application of anti-wrinkle serum. In the salon area, hair stylists craft new looks with cuts and color, along with styling treatments at the dedicated blow-dry bar. In private rooms, massage therapists unearth tension through their soothing strokes. The spa even features a host of male-centric services such as men's facials, beard trims, and grey-blending treatments.
Products by brands such as Pharmagel, Aquage, Sexy Hair, Moroccanoil, Vavoom, and Essentials jump into clients' hair and hands at Lakeside Hair Boutique and Day Spa. That's because the stylists use them during hair services, but also make them available for sale in the boutique. It's not just high-end products that refresh guests, though. It's also the facials, hair extensions that last up to one year, soothing massages, and luxurious manicures and pedicures. So, in addition to stylists who re-imagine hair-scapes by using Japanese hair-straightening techniques, nail technicians host clients in cozy black leather thrones during mani-pedis. The latter might involve shiny shellac gels that last for up to two weeks without chipping or fading. Elsewhere—in private rooms—massage therapists work away knots and pent-up stress. Their methods include specialized Swedish, deep-tissue, hot stone, and aromatherapy massages, as well as just playing a tambourine on your back.
Located inside Sun-Rayz Tanning, Derick Steven Hair Studio offers haircuts for men, women, and kids. The savvy stylists also update tresses with partial or full highlights as well as perms. Special occasions get an extra dose of glamour after the stylists create special looks such as braided updos with buns or cascading curls.
The trained technicians at West Hartford Pain & Wellness Center help patients slim down and combat cellulite with a variety of treatments. They take advantage of technology such as the Lapex 2000 LipoLaser, which is designed to rid bodies of subdermal stores of glycerol, water, and toxins. Newly smooth-skinned patrons walk from treatment rooms after body-contouring wraps, which may also shrink circumferences. Chatter drifts from rooms where nutritional counselors discuss rules for a healthy diet low in saturated fats and unstated rules at plastic-fruit museums. Following all treatments, weight-loss professionals work closely with each client to design a custom weight-loss program with meal plans, workouts, and supplements based on body type and hormonal imbalances.
55 may be the number in the business's name, but the certified technicians at Laser55 are partial to the number 3. That's because there are three steps to their nonsurgical weight-loss program: Lipo-Light, whole-body vibration, and an amethyst bio-mat. First, patients relax as a technician passes the noninvasive Lipo-Light laser over skin, where it penetrates fat cells and drains them. Then, they step onto the whole-body-vibration platform, which quickly shakes up muscles to trigger contractions that work to burn off the newly liquefied fat. To cap off the three-step treatment, patients lay atop an amethyst bio-mat, which kick-starts the lymphatic system while ionizing the blood to promote detoxification. This helps the body to flush fat from the system long after the appointment ends. While the staff can perform each treatment separately, they recommend their patients go through all three steps, since the laser, vibration platform, and bio-mat all suffer from severe separation anxiety. Dr. David J. Domenichini, one of the Top Docs of 2012 in Connecticut Magazine and a clinical speaker for such pharmaceutical giants as Eli Lilly and Merck, slenderizes figures with noninvasive Zerona treatments. The endocrinologist and internist also monitors blood-sugar levels for Cookie Monster and people with diabetes, and he keeps hormones in check. When he’s not fielding questions in person, he welcomes patients to submit questions online.
