From its unobstructed perch directly on the bay, the Herreshoff Marine Museum showcases a vast sampling of the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company’s historic fleet of power and sailing yachts. Herreshoff helped usher in the early 20th-century's golden age of yachting, building eight consecutive America’s Cup winners before constructing the first torpedo boats for the U.S. Navy, which until that point had relied on splashing the enemy’s vessels whenever the lifeguard wasn’t looking. A family membership grants two adults and up to four children free year-round access to 60 classic yachts, plus steam engines, fittings, photographs, and memorabilia. Members also get to wander the America’s Cup Hall of Fame, which honors the inductees of yachting’s premier competition.

An Orana Catamaran and fleet of Beneteau sailboats bear the Rob Swain Sailing School and Charters insignia, indicating their status as floating classrooms for the school's pupils. The accredited outfit maintains facilities in Rhode Island and the British Virgin Islands, where it boasts access to steady trade winds and plenty of sunshine. Sailors-in-training can start with the basic keelboat course, learning basic sailing techniques and terminology such as "starboard" and "water" before advancing to courses on coastal navigation, bareboating, and performance racing.
As the sun sets, cityscapes buzz with neon silhouettes as runners clad in glow-in-the-dark garb race through the GlowBash 5K's metropolitan courses. But the late starting time and futuristically-clad participants are not the only things that set this race apart from other 5K trots. Competing in teams of two or more, runners must follow 10 clues provided at the start of the race that will guide them to a series of predetermined checkpoints and challenges. Depending on the route they take, runners can cover anywhere from 3 to 5 miles in a path that can take roughly 2.5 hours to complete. After the race, each participant receives a medal and access to a post-race party, where they can mingle with fellow runners rather than going home and jogging alone on their human-sized hamster wheel. The race benefits the Wounded Warrior Project.
