With 26 years of teaching experience, Angela Fowler at Mountain Dell Equestrian is skilled at providing riding instruction and coaching to budding bronco busters. Before hitting the trails, allow Fowler to select an appropriate steed to complement your experience and wardrobe selection, or bring along your own filly to ride. Saddle up your equine pal for an hour of trotting, cantering, and telepathic bantering in either the scenic outdoor or lighted indoor arena. Lessons include instruction on tacking and untacking the horse in appropriate festoonery, including a saddle, bit, bridle, and Velcro-bound top hat.

The trainers at Thank Dog! Bootcamp tap into dogs' energy and devotion to motivate humans to get into shape. Bootcamps cater to two-legged and four-legged participants at the same time. Instructors divide each 60-minute workout into 10-minute segments alternating between cardio, obedience training, and doggie downtime while humans perform strength-training drills. In addition to being a good form of exercise, the classes instill basic obedience-training techniques that can be used at home.

Twelve spacious runs, organic shampoos, and shelves of high-quality pet foods attest to Canine Shear Heaven’s staff's doting approach to their animal charges. The boarding kennel is located at owner Marthe Worley’s country home in Mars Hill, where 21-square-foot dog runs give canines the space to stretch their limbs and practice downward-human yoga poses in between chowing on food, basking in twice-daily walks, and hunkering down beneath blankets for a good night's sleep. In the onsite grooming facility, attentive groomers clip and sculpt dog and cat coats and lavish them in shampoos made from organic aloe, citrus, and herb ingredients. Canine Shear Heaven also keeps its retail shelves stocked with Lupine collars and pet food from notable brands such as Canidae and Fromm.

Combining experience in lampworking, glass blowing, and jewelry design, the experienced glassblowers of Asheville Glass Center lead workshops and classes to share their passion for manipulating molten glass. The two- to three-hour intro courses teach neophytes to craft borosilicate marbles and soft glass beads, and more in-depth classes result in intricate implosion flowers and sand-cast solid forms. The center also offers open studio time for more experienced artists who wish to work alone, like the winningest three-legged racers.
