NDMV tutors provide students with assistance on their schoolwork and develop an academic plan for each of them, following up regularly on their report cards and other signposts of academic progress. Volunteers also help facilitate involvement in extracurricular activities by providing transportation to sporting events and encouraging enrollment in school clubs. Furthermore, NDMV strives to engage parents and friends in students' academic life, encouraging them to take an active interest in the young people's progress. Through the program's efforts, students who received assistance from NDMV reported improved attitudes toward school and schoolwork, and 62% of students who received aid for one year showed an improvement in school attendance when compared to the previous year.

A full slate of hairstyling services awaits, including cuts, updos, and highlights for both men and women. Nail technicians groom nails and soften skin during basic mani-pedis or organic nail services, which include ingredients such as milk and honey, chocolate, or herbs, and aestheticians reach for chocolate, caribbean sea salt, or seaweed during skin-softening body treatments that may be enjoyed à la carte or paired with a soothing Swedish, deep-tissue, or volcanic-stone massage. Spa On The Square extends its waxing services to men as well, manscaping fuzz on multiple areas including the stomach, neck, back, and ears. The spa even offers men's Brazilian waxes for baseball players looking to facilitate faster slides into home plate.
Every year on the first weekend of May, downtown Baltimore's streets bustle as tens of thousands of moviegoers visit local theaters to watch films shot, directed, and edited around the globe. The Maryland Film Festival, like a freakish hurdle sprinter, runs for five days and showcases about 50 feature films and 75 short pieces—ranging from documentaries to animations—many of which are presented by their respective filmmakers or celebrity guest hosts. Past hosts have included Ian MacKaye and Branford Marsalis, and legendary filmmaker John Waters regularly makes an appearance at the festival, hosting a feature film of his choice. Attendees may also stimulate and expand their sensory palates with special events that have included international flicks, three-dimensional movies, and vintage silent films synced to live music.
