Originally founded as a rape-crisis center in 1984, Hope Alliance expanded its services to help survivors of domestic violence soon after. Along with providing legal assistance and victim's-rights education, Hope Alliance runs a 24-hour crisis hotline and emergency shelter. There, case managers work one-on-one with women and their kids, helping them plan for future stability while keeping them safe and fed. An on-staff children’s counselor provides special programming and therapy for kids who have witnessed or experienced abuse, and a community-outreach program helps educate the public about the prevention of domestic and sexual violence.

The certified flight instructors and staff members at Phoenix Arising Aviation Academy share their passion not only with curious students, but also with disadvantaged youth during aviation-focused after-school programs. The nonprofit organization's extracurricular programs welcome students aged 7–18, and they strive to spark an interest in math and science through hands-on learning and exploration. Additionally, adult programs for both introductory and advanced flight training combine scenario-based lessons with sessions in the Redbird FM full-motion flight simulator—which accurately produces the sensations of taking off, navigating, and Airplane!’s most heartwarming scenes.

While working in a hospital setting, Meredith Cooper and Melissa Hicks saw a number of children who suffered emotional devastation due to a family member’s illness. Together they founded Wonders & Worries to provide formalized therapeutic sessions for youth with a seriously ill parent. They and their staff of child-life professionals have worked with more than 1,000 families with a member dealing with cancer, ALS, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s disease. Their therapeutic sessions help children maintain a sense of normalcy while they cope with hospital visits and the effects of their parent's illness. The organization provides both individual and group sessions in English and Spanish and offers bereavement support for families that experience a loss.
