With their yellow petals gone to seed, aging dandelions sway in the breeze before wafting away. Elsewhere, cartoon cats perch on a purple fence, mewling out at the sea and the stars that swirl above the moonlit water. Though these sound as if they're scenes from a wistful animated movie, they're the kind of eye-grabbing images that novices can create at Arts-n-Carafes. Inside the relaxing haunt, seasoned artists and people who have never known the joy of tying a wild canvas to the easel get together to paint their own versions of colorful pieces and sip on provided wines. They can also sign up for an off-site private party, painting in the comfort of their own home or company office.
Let It Ride Casino Parties transforms gatherings—wedding receptions, graduations, and just about any other type of event—into a night out on the Vegas strip. Owners Cory Thompson and Brian Keller emerged from extensive backgrounds in the casino industry to bring the company to life. The pair uses their knowledge to create authentic-feeling casino experiences, complete with professional equipment and games such as blackjack, craps, roulette, and Texas Hold 'Em. Most importantly, Let It Ride helms its parties with professional dealers, who know the ins and outs of each game and will do nothing more than pass you a card when you say "hit me."
Within Skatebarn's 45,000 square feet of skating space, half pipes and launches patiently perch and wait for the skateboards, rollerblades, bikes, and skates that glide over their surfaces. During two-hour sessions, skaters can freewheel throughout the area, jumping and coasting over rails, verts, ramps, and drops as smoothly as a family of olive-oiled seals. Skatebarn hosts a variety of events and skateboard, BMX, scooter, and rollerblade contests. All skaters must sign a waiver before officially entering into skate territory.
Though thousands of miles from Thailand, Leading Edge Kickboxing & Martial Arts imports the country’s national sport, Muay Thai kickboxing, fresh daily. The fighting style, built on a foundation of kicking, punching, and elbow and knee strikes, forms the core of their fitness programs, engineered by head instructor John Stabb. Enamored of all arts martial, the instructors also teach Jiu-Jitsu’s unarmed combat techniques, MMA, and Jeet Kune Do’s self-defense method that employs weaponry, grappling, and strategically scattering banana peels to throw your opponent off balance. Unlike more repetitive workouts, the studio’s varied martial arts sessions build lean muscle mass and enhance cardio fitness.
A Sikorsky 300C training helicopter and fleet of Cessna 172 airplanes lift new aviators into the air during Airwork LLC's flight-training classes for both commercial and private pilots. Experienced instructors lead introductory flights that combine on-the-ground lessons with assisted flies, allowing students to get their wings wet as they learn a new skill that may someday translate into a career as an aerial photographer, movie stuntman, or raincloud repairman. Students keep track of their progress toward licensure in pilot logbooks, and Airwork also maintains a comprehensive online-training library with important documents and handbooks for both helicopter and airplane training.
