Cardinale Acupuncture Chet Cardinale, a licensed acupuncturist and registered dietetic technician, has trained extensively in acupuncture and herbal medicine both at the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine and at the Jiangsu Provincial People's Hospital. At his eponymous clinic, he employs the traditional and esoteric acupuncture techniques he's learned, placing thin, sterile needles along the body's energy pathways and supplementing their healing effects with Chinese herbs and nutritional counseling. He tailors each session to individual patients, aiming to help them quit smoking, reduce energy imbalances, or assuage stress and anxiety.

Q&A with the Doctor Of Chiropractic

What is one of your signature services? How is it performed?

BodyLight consists of eight pads that are placed directly on the skin for 15 minutes. They emit a specific wavelength of light, mimicking the body's own natural fat loss process by opening a pore through which the fat empties. Each session is followed by 10 minutes of vibration therapy along with nutritional counseling.

Patricia Mahone and Barbara Simpson, the healers at Gate of Life, treat patients holistically, employing a combination of modern Western medicine and traditional Eastern acupuncture and moxibustion. The duo use their years of experience and understanding of Five Element acupuncture to treat the root cause of patients' pain. Sessions commence with an initial assessment, during which therapists evaluate patients' medical history and determine that they are not evil twins. The therapist then gently inserts the thin needles along the body, targeting specific energy points to help to relieve aches, strengthen the immune system, increase energy levels, and, ultimately, free up stagnant chi. Gate of Life also provides moxibustion sessions⎯burning cones made of the Chinese plant moxa⎯along the acupuncture's injection sites to enhance the treatment's effects.

License acupuncturist and massage therapist Jonathan McDonnell resents the term “alternative medicine”. To him, it implies that acupuncture, herbs, and traditional Chinese medicine are designed to replace modern medicine. But, as someone who worked as a physical therapist in the United States and trained in Chinese medicine in China, he believes Eastern and Western approaches to medicine complement each other. His clinic always tries to work with a patient’s primary-care physician, discussing treatment options and whether or not the patient is a cyborg before administering therapies, such as acupuncture, herbal supplements, and massages.

Knowledge is power, especially when it comes to physical health. Doctor of Chiropractic Christina Trzaska helps patients take control of their health by sharing her knowledge. She educates her clients while performing a variety of healing techniques, including drop-table adjustments, kinesiology taping, and Graston-technique massages, which incorporate smooth stainless-steel instruments to create a cross-friction movement across the soft tissues. Dr. Trzaska's practice also has elements of a spa; clients can relax in a Himalayan-salt infrared sauna, for example.
