Fusion Gymnastics doesn't draw a strict line in the sand between education and play. The gym hosts rigorous gymnastics classes, certainly, in which the instructors teach students to feel at home atop balance beams, midair above vault tables, and executing flips on high bars. At the end of the week, however, the team switches seamlessly into Fun Fridays mode, pulling out an inflatable slide and encouraging kids to safely use the equipment?including foam pits and trampolines?however they like, even if that just means playing Fulcrum by standing stock-still under a balance beam. Birthday parties are similarly fun and flexible, with the added bonus that families can participate and the gym can provide balloons and cake.

Georgia Elite All Stars' staff of professional cheerleaders, gymnasts, and martial artists lead tumbling and cheer classes for students 18 months to 18 years old in a state of the art facility. Programs range from weekly tumbling sessions for toddlers new to walking to grade-school cheer teams competing in Cheersport Cheerleading and Dance Championships. But the activities offered here encompass much more than just straightforward tumbling and cheer. In the tricking class, second-degree black belt instructor covers martial arts moves that incorporate tumbling that can be seen from the facility's observation deck.

The first time Jimmy Redus tried out for cheerleading, it was just a joke with his wrestling buddies. However, when he didn't make the team, cheerleading became a real goal and eventually, a passion. More than two decades since that first tryout, he owns Middle Georgia Cheer Extreme??a cheer and gymnastics training center with its own 11,000 square-foot facility and team of experienced coaches. Tumbling classes, cheer teams, and private lessons train students ages 2 to adult, focusing on the athleticism of the sport and personal development.

In 1976, educator, musician, and kinesiologist Robin Wes longed for a children's gym that prioritized personal growth over competition. Unveiled at a time when physical-education classes pushed students to focus almost exclusively on winning, Robin's program was swiftly adopted and is now used in more than 300 Little Gyms worldwide. Robin still pens original music to accompany lessons, which engage whippersnappers 4 months to 12 years old with gymnastics, dance, karate, and parent and child activities.

Each of The Little Gym's classes introduces simple movements that sharpen motor skills and set brains whirring, allowing kids to progress at their own pace until they can finally build a computer out of macaroni and glitter. Staff members strive to build a base for lifelong social skills and self-assurance with each exercise, including activities rooted purely in fun, such as summer camps or birthday parties, which helped The Little Gym to earn title of #1 Birthday Chain in Parents Magazine.
