Q&A with the President of Golden State Gymnastics

I'm a first-timer. How do you get me ready for the experience?
We send a welcome and information email that details how to register online, how to e-sign our waiver form, and what to wear and bring. We advise people to arrive in time to find parking.

As the old adage says, "Stuff happens." What training do you and your staff have to stay ahead of the unexpected?
All staff members are CPR/First Aid and USA Gymnastics Safety Certified, as well as fingerprinted and background checked. Staff members attend regional and national level training. We have a disaster plan in place and conduct periodic disaster drills on site so that we are prepared for emergencies.

What is the experience customers can expect, and how do you make it special?
Our mission is to offer a fun, safe and healthy gymnastics experience by providing the highest quality instruction and encouraging atmosphere to every child who walks through our doors. We want your child's favorite day of the week to be at Golden State Gymnastics. A highlight of the week is the inflatable water slide during water play. This year, the slide is scheduled for two days each week!

Reflecting their zeal and do-it-yourself confidence, the LA. Derby Dolls zip around a 100’x60’ banked oval track that they built themselves with the help of friends and family members. The track’s customized slope and elevation enables them to hit breakneck paces normally reserved for cheetahs that can afford their own cleats. Bout attendees can wander over to the factory’s Doll Mall for Stila Cosmetics, apparel and jewelry, food from the likes of Garage Pizza, and visit the Mohawk Bend Bar for craft beers from Golden Road Brewing or a Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum cocktail.

Although fans keep the air moving, the Doll Factory doesn’t have air conditioning or heating, so audience members should dress according to the season. Bout attendees can park their cars for $10 at Silver Lake Medical Center or their motorcycles and scooters for $5 at the Westlake entrance.

Recognizing the opportunities that having such a large track gives them, the Derby Dolls have expanded their community involvement by offering the venue for events such as the TwentyWonder fundraiser for the Down Syndrome Association of Los Angeles.

A staff of seasoned coaches presides over the pitch at Los Angeles Soccer Academy, teaching aspiring strikers the fundamentals of the game with a comprehensive and well-rounded developmental strategy. The USSF-licensed instructors strive to foster technical ball-control skills with the aim of instilling confidence in players to handle the pressures of the game, such as an oncoming defender or a territorial tuft of grass. After achieving comfort with the ball, pupils will be more adept at executing team-oriented strategies, such as retaining the right shape in their formation, improvising with fellow teammates, and visualizing and executing the right plays. The academy drives home its developmental strategies with drills that emphasize the possession-first philosophies of Spain, the fruitful four-on-four groundwork of Holland, and the soft-cheese-fueled training regimes of southern France. Though it is involved with competitive leagues, the academy offers camps and clinics for players of all abilities.

Summer Explosion 2011, hosted by Terrence J and Rocsi from BET's 106 & Park, bends the dog-ears of summer in a roof-raising night packed with eight dynamo hip-hop MCs. Headlining the night of lyrical funambulism and gelatin-rumbling bass, Soulja Boy, author of the imperative smash hit "Crank Dat," salutes his army of fans in a set soaked with swagger, exuding crafty tracks that turn the air into ringtones. In support of his latest album, The DeAndre Way, Soulja Boy struts and huffs and puffs, blowing audiences away as if they were springtime dandelions. Backing up the star-studded show, Baby Bash makes audiences sweat out bathwater, Travis Porter raconteurs from the red-light district with rat-a-tat raps, Audio Push cuckolds woofers from their tweeters with seductive rhymes, and Georgia rapper Yc Racks rhythmically rattles off diary pages from his days at Hard Knocks High.
