Amid leafy branches and between gently swaying trees, Tarzan impersonators soar through the air. Dagaz Acres' eco-adventure zipline course lets children, adults, and adult-size children explore woodland canopies up to 70 feet high, and staff ensures that participants glide snugly in their half-body swing harnesses. Adventurers plunge through seven dual ziplines strung over 23 acres of ground and ravines, three canopy-level ziplines, and two bridges. One bridge is a Burma bridge built with varying types of rope, and the other is a plank construction pirate bridge that stretches 90 feet and swings over a ravine to discourage motorcycle-chase sequences.

Dagaz Acres' staff members spread their love of outdoors learning to team-building and leadership exercises held in single-day and overnight programs. They train athletic teams and office groups through ground exercises and on a low-challenge ropes course, which allows participants to engage in physical challenges without the added risk of a bird nesting in their hair. The company reflects this passion in its name, Dagaz, which is derived from a Nordic rune meaning "transformational breakthrough change." Staffers enable others to change through adventure as they design, build, and maintain zipline and ropes courses elsewhere through Dagaz Acres Management Inc. construction division.

Snap Fitness's easyFIT monitor is a small, clip-on accelerometer that helps keep track of daily exercise. Unlike pedometers that merely measure steps and spy on daydreams, the easyFIT monitor senses the intensity and duration of physical activity, transmogrifying those stats into simple, numerical points that help assess activity levels from sedentary to peak performance. In addition to tracking exercise in real time, easyFIT monitors can connect to the wearer's personal web portal to upload data and create fitness graphs that help show progress, snag exercise suggestions, and stave off the temptation of living next to a hamburger farm. Watch a video about the easyFit here.

Co-owner and PGA player Doug Martin and his fellow golf experts dedicate The Golf Range to the cause of perfect putts and smooth swings. An 8,000-square-foot putting green and short-game area doles out new golf balls for patrons to practice, minimizing misplaced shots and paychecks lost to preteen mini-golf sharks. The indoor putting green guards clubs from the elements, and players sharpen their skills beneath the all-seasons shelter of 37 heated and covered bays. Brush up with The Golf Range's online golf tips before taking to the tee.

Dearborn Country Club traces its roots to 1926, when a group of area businessmen purchased the sprawling Wymond Estate in Aurora, Indiana, and used its setting, overlooking the Wilson Creek Valley, to design a nine-hole golf course. Today, the original course still offers a timeless test of pin-hunting prowess, though it has expanded into an 18-hole, 6,314-yard layout after a 1993 renovation and a steady diet of protein-rich mini-golf courses. Characterized by undulating terrain that gives way to sprawling views of the valley below, the layout showcases hole designs that demand creative shotmaking, including any shot from the double-dogleg fairway at the par 5 fifth.

Once the centerpiece of the club, the original Wymond Estate mansion burned down in 2003 and was replaced by a 25,000-square-foot, ivory clubhouse. Inside the stately clubhouse, the aromas of sizzling steaks emanate from Woody's on the Hill Bar and Grille, where a menu of grill fare and seafood and a full-service bar help golfers unwind after a long day at the links or mourn the loss of a sand wedge lost at sea.

Course at a Glance: * 18-hole, par 71 course * Length of 6,314 yards from the farthest tees * Course rating of 70.4 from the farthest tees * Slope rating of 129 from the farthest tees * Three tee options * Scorecard

Q&A with Kristopher Stone, Director

What special training do you or your staff have?

We have extensive backgrounds in plant science, since we are afterall an Arboretum (a living museum for plants). Our knowledgeable staff offer expert information on any plant-related questions that visitors may have to the Arboretum. In addition, several of our employees are ISA Certified Arborists and can provide excellent pruning tips.

I'm a first-timer. How do you get me ready for the experience?

Our property is 121 acres, with over two miles of paved trails and around [a quarter]-mile of non paved woodland hiking trails. Because of this, people often do not plan out how long it will take to see everything, or do not come prepared with refreshments packed. Comfortable walking shoes are a must, and plant for at least two hours, if not more, to see everything.
