  • Pinkberry Abbotsford
From foodies to celebrities, to trendwatchers and Pinkberry's own fanbase of groupies, the buzz about Pinkberry has been sweeping the world. Excitement was high from the very beginning when in 2005 Pinkberry opened its first store in West Hollywood, CA. The demand for the swirls of yogurt was so high that Pinkberry was dubbed the "taste that launched 1,000 parking tickets" by the Los Angeles Times. Undeterred by parking regulations, people were drawn in by their cravings for the yogurt, the abundance of toppings, the bright and energetic modern store design, and the kind smiles of the staff. With over 220 locations in 18 countries, Pinkberry is now one of the most talked about premium frozen yogurts in the world. Starting with a base of Canadian non-fat, hormone-free milk and non-fat yogurt, Pinkberry's artisans incorporate live and active cultures into the mixture to create a healthy, refreshing treat. The original yogurt is always available, but staffers also swirl new seasonal flavours throughout the year, such as chocolate hazelnut, pomegranate, and cherry. The selection of fresh fruit rotates with the seasons and is cut daily in each store. Other toppings, such as honey almond granola, dark chocolate crisps, swirl pearls, and Italian caramel, allow customers to create a new and inspired flavour combination every visit.

  • Cupcakes by Heather & Lori
There are two ways to watch Heather White and Lori Joyce bake their preservative-free cupcakes from scratch. Guests can pop into one of their bakeries on the days the duo is in the shop or they can watch from the family room as the ladies craft desserts from basic ingredients on their TV show The Cupcake Girls. It took time to build up the Cupcakes empire. What started as a teenage dream for the two friends seemed remote after they went their separate ways, one pursuing a degree in animal biology, the other working in the fashion industry. When the two reconnected later in New York City by a simple twist of fate, they realized they still pined for the possibility of owning a company together. They drew up the plans, packed their bags, charted a course back to Vancouver in a cupcake-shaped hot air balloon, and started their first store. Inside their retro-style locations, bakers craft cupcakes made with real butter or design specialty cakes for all manner of noteworthy occasions, such as weddings, birthdays, and parties.

  • The Valley Bakery
Rich chocolate butter cream, Black Forest cherries, and just a dash of kirsch brandy. Separately, these ingredients might be nothing more than a gingerbread man's abandoned DIY project. But in the ovens of The Valley Bakery, they transform into a decedent sponge cake known as the Schwartzwalder Torte. Over more than half a century, the European-style bakery has fine-tuned recipes for dozens of cakes and desserts—from apple turnovers to more than 25 kinds of cookies. Birthdays and weddings give the bakers even more opportunities to exhibit their virtuosity. Atop multiple tiers of European butter cream cake, they use icing to paint murals of flowers, hearts, shamrocks, and other designs. The bakers also have a savory side, which they show off with multigrain breads and meat pies.
