Muscle knots. Chronic aches. Deep-seated reservoirs of stress and anxiety. These and other ailments bring clients to Elements Therapeutic Massage, where they find relief courtesy of professional therapists who customize their treatments to match individual needs. The studio’s unique, level-based system gives clients an idea of what to expect during the session; they can request a low level for a gentler experience or opt for a higher level to eliminate any soreness remaining from the previous day’s jousting tournament. Each massage therapist has his or her own specialties, and treatments may draw on relaxing Swedish and hot-stone techniques or firmer deep-tissue and trigger-point strokes.

InVitalize Medi Spa is a full-service place of pampering, chock-full of talented and friendly technicians who will coddle keratin until it's as stress-free as a fish in water wings. The classic manicure starts out with a warm hand soak followed by cuticle and nail shaping and a soothing massage, and the pedicure begins by submerging flippers in a whirlpool bath. Next, an expert in foot aesthetics and comfort will care for your toe cuticles, shape and buff your nails, exfoliate your hard-working heels, and drive out digit tension during a moisturizing foot massage. Both services are finished with fresh coats of shiny polish and a complete reading of The Salon, a 2005 feature-length film starring Vivica A. Fox.

Deep-seated stresses dissipate at the hands of Limback Wellness Center's certified massage therapists. The center specializes in hot-stone and hot-towel massages, which employ penetrating heat and soothing circular motions to boost circulation, oxygenate muscles, and alleviate the lingering stiffness that comes from serving as the spring festival’s Maypole. Aside from their popular heated modalities, the team of male and female massage therapists treats clients to gentle relaxation massages and more focused deep-tissue work.

When Penny Strohkirch and Larry Oliver met on the first day of massage school on September 11, 2001, they immediately knew they wanted to work together. Their closeness came easy, “I think partially because of the very emotional first day of class,” Penny says. After graduation, they found a way to realize their shared career aspirations and opened Rejuvenations Massage and Spa.Fish tanks, whose occupants have names such as Sgt. Pepper, stand in every treatment room, filled with a combined total of 75 fish and two confused treasure hunters. As clients meditate on the tanks’ soothing visuals, Penny or Larry delivers a custom blend of massage modalities such as Swedish, deep-tissue, and shiatsu. They focus on the healthful aspects of massage to complement or even replace the need for traditional medicine. “I have a professional runner who swears he can't train for or recover from a marathon without me,” Penny says. Even she has benefited from the healing results of massage. “I was told that I would never recover from a shoulder injury without surgery,” Penny remembers. She instead began a therapeutic massage regimen, “and guess what? Never had surgery.”
