Tanning beds are strictly outlawed within Sundrops. Instead, owner Laura Downing hires experienced technicians who expertly spritz skin with safe, high-quality tanning solution that results in a streak-free, natural glow, rather than orangey skin. After clients undress to their comfort level, the techs use a high-volume, low-pressure spray gun to mist skin, using extra caution around hands, feet, elbows, and knees to avoid over-darkening those areas.
Their tanning solution contains botanical extract, vitamin E, and green-tea extract, but the bronze comes from two sources. First, a cosmetic bronzer with natural pigment imparts immediate colour to help the technician see where the tan is landing and give skin an instant glow, which washes off after showering. The solution's active ingredient is DHA, which is derived from sugar beets and reacts with skin's top layer. The DHA tan begins to appear about four hours after appointments and fully develops for up to 12 hours, and lasts for 5–10 days, depending on which type of tan technicians apply. The spray tan itself takes about three minutes, and clients can easily get in and out within 15 minutes to resume comedic chase scenes without losing much ground.
Sohni Skin & Hair Studio’s spa specialists combine ancient Eastern traditions with modern dermatological products in aesthetic treatments and wellness services. Lead aesthetician Harmeet Madaan provides the spa’s signature Bollywood lash and brow enhancements, which begin with a traditional threading that sculpts eyebrow arches to flatter clients' facial structures. Then, synthetic and mink extensions from JB Lashes—favoured by celebrity eyelash batters Kim Kardashian and Aishwarya Rai—elongate eye fringe until a blink can tickle passersby.
Skincare professionals reintroduce clients to full-frame radiance with facials that use high-performance skoah products or Botox injections that stave off wrinkles caused by the constant fear of being chased by a mastodon. Appearances can also be enhanced with nail art, Bollywood-inspired makeup, and intricate henna. Clients can also remove unwanted hair with IPL laser or waxing hair-removal services.
Chosen as the Gold winner for best spa and aesthetics studio in the Calgary Herald Readers' Choice Awards, Oasis Wellness Centre & Spa stretches across 15,000 square feet equipped with more than 30 treatment rooms staffed by experts in skincare, massage, and aesthetics. With a belief that spa treatments are not just a luxury but a necessity to overall well-being, the team welcomes guests to their ancient Egyptian-themed resort to slip into a snuggly robe and slippers while aestheticians soothe and treat skin conditions with their own skincare line, Teye Treatment. Amid a pyramid motif and pillars etched with hieroglyphics, mani-pedi pros perform hydrating paraffin pedicures and manicures, and the steam room envelopes patrons in a rejuvenating eucalyptus inhalation steam and the sauna works to extract body toxins, purifying pores and melting muscles the way a flock of baby dragons melts the heart. Helming the friendly team of staff members, president of the Oasis Wellness Centre & Spa, Peter Smed, told the Calgary Herald, "People love to work here," noting that the spa's size allows for convenient appointment-making, happy customers, and happy staffers.
The Smart Tan–certified team at Tan de Soleil assists clients in getting the best out of their experiences by keeping immaculate tanning studios stocked with modern tanning beds and spray-tan booths. Before customers slip into a KBL lay-down bed or a Sun Capsule VHR stand-up unit, the staff provides them with sanitized protective eyewear and towels. They also change the bulbs in those beds regularly to keep them at optimal tanning efficiency.
For UV-free tans, the crew educates its guests about the use of VersaSpa and Mystic Tan spray-tanning booths for custom tans with solutions that moisturize and nourish skin. These tanning booths can gild tanners in about 60 seconds, but for those who wish to take their time, the studios come equipped with a vanity area. In there, guests lounge and use supplied nail files, hairspray, gel, and beauty products to get ready for the rest of their days. The space also allows for phone conversations so customers don’t have to feel intrusive when making personal calls or leaving in-your-face messages on King Midas’s voicemail.
A talented cast of stylists, nail technicians, and aestheticians stands at the ready beside the salon chairs and treatment stations that fill Turning Heads Hair & Skin Studio’s chic and elegant space. Soft blues and greys cover nearly every wall in the airy studio, evoking a natural setting somewhat at odds with the hyper-contemporary geometries of several diamond-shaped salon mirrors. This peculiar confluence of nature and cutting-edge fashion finds its reflection in the stylists themselves, all of whom call upon advanced Paul Mitchell formulas to cut locks into styles that stay in place but look effortless.
Sitting just outside the circles of cropped hair that surround the salon chairs, nail technicians pamper hands with manicures and feet with four types of pedicures, each designed to soften skin roughened from walking around in stilettos or hopping around in sandbags. In the salon's secluded spa room, a licensed aesthetician employs hard wax to gently remove hair and treats skin concerns such as acne or aging with eight types of facials.
