Ellijay Marketplace changes with the seasons. During the summer, an open-air flea market sprouts at its perimeter and during the colder months, it's a purely indoor shopping center. And while it's less seasonal, the indoor space is far from static. The merchandise in the 10,000-square-foot consignment center, for example, rotates regularly, as do the antiques and curiosities sold at live auctions. Local retailers, such as The Man Cave Shop and Kristina Lee's Boutique, also show their wares at select indoor tables. Visitors can shop the market's quirky finds, or simply browse while listening to the eclectic bluegrass performances.
In its inaugural year, Spoil Me 2012 celebrates and bolsters the diverse lives of women of all ages with health and wellness workshops, yoga classes, and professional speakers. Participants stroll or practice their runway strut through the center, sampling cuisine bites or swilling sips of wine while watching fashion models exhibit burgeoning trends and accessories. Although everyone has access to classes and workshops, VIP visitors also get to bask in pampering sessions from local spa personnel, who whisk away stress caused by long workdays and nights spent robbing ATMs. During the silent purse auction, all eventgoers can bid, with proceeds going to domestic-violence shelters and homeless shelters for women in Dalton and Chattanooga.
The Atlanta Steeplechase brings equine entertainment to more than 30,000 guests each year with its hoof-happy races at Kingston Downs. Enjoy a great view from virtually any seat as jockeys race their steeds around the track in search of the finish sign and some edible flowers. Not just a horse race, the Atlanta Steeplechase entertains guests with a full schedule of family-friendly events, including dogs chasing flying discs, pony and hay rides, sky-diving demonstrations, and whinnying workshops. A general-admission ticket includes parking and grants access to the infield, where mustang mavens tote picnic accouterments for trackside comfort. The Subscriber Backstretch package includes reserved parking along with admission for six—enough for Brady-esque broods.
Established in 1982, Kennesaw State's athletics program first competed in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. In the mid-90s, the Owls migrated to the NCAA, where they claimed 7 Division II championships in activities as diverse as men's basketball, cheerleading, and women's soccer. Just as a real owl hones its night vision until it stops stubbing its talons on branches, the school continued its ascent until it joined the Division I Atlantic Sun Conference, netting two national tournament appearances in women's soccer as well as championships in men's track and field and women's cross-country.
