Amid peach-hued walls, Carriage House Salon & Spa’s team of stylists and aestheticians lavishes patrons with hair, skin, and nail treatments. Under beaming track lights and sun rays pouring in from floor-to-ceiling windows, hairdressers tend to tresses on the salon floor, where locks can be snipped off or coiled into occasion-ready updos. Nail stations brim with much more than polish, as many treatments can be supplemented with a warm paraffin wrap that hydrates skin and eases discomfort endured by people with arthritis. In private treatment rooms, massage therapists unfurl knotted shoulder and neck muscles. During facials, Dr. Hauschka Skin Care products and techniques stimulate lymphatic systems and dress skin in natural plant and mineral extracts brought to the spa by a friendly wood nymph.
The staff at Tocco Classico helps clients to cultivate confidence with a variety of salon and spa treatments. From behind a row of black-leather styling chairs, stylists perform cuts and coloring services that can redefine a client's image and erase evidence of having chased loose change into a cotton-candy machine. Aestheticians target blemishes and imperfections with facial treatments or quickly remove unwanted hair with waxing. Massage therapists reward shoulders, backs, and legs with relaxing bodywork treatments. The spa also keeps clients looking food after they leave by stocking a variety of hair products for ongoing upkeep.

Facials are the marquee treatments at Skin & Body Works, and the skin care professionals conduct each one with unhampered focus and an array of Murad products. Take, for instance, the hydrating facial. During this revitalizing treatment, the staff cleanses, exfoliates, and massages the skin in preparation for vitamin and hydrating masks that provide deep moisturization. Or, the super-c facial, which uses masks, serums, and a customized vitamin C treatment to nourish the complexion and fight signs of aging. Beyond facials, the staff also specializes in three methods of hair removal. Electrolysis and laser hair removal treatments are performed with state-of-the-art equipment, whereas skin-waxing techs follow strict sanitary practices that include utilizing disposable wooden applicators and bulldozing each table between appointments.
Anthony Capalino has spent the last 14 years working on Newbury Street as a stylist in two salons: Pina Swissa and Runway. But since opening his own salon—which features ample parking space, to boot—he still maintains ties with clients from his former salons, beyond sending them the occasional chain letter. Their loyalty is likely due to his artistic dedication to hair: He approaches each haircut like a layered sculpture, following the head's contours to create a natural shape that flatters each client's face. Beyond cuts, he tames frizz and curls with keratin treatments, pumps up volume and length with hair extensions, and adds dimension color and highlights. While Anthony and his stylists work, track lighting illuminates white chairs and walls accented by pops of orange, creating an ambiance as modern as the hairstyles they create.
The Salon 22 team uses products from many top brands to render hair resplendent. They call upon such lock elixirs as Moroccanoil, Pravana, and Redken. Specifically, they might use formaldehyde-free California Smooth to perform keratin treatments or SO.CAP. USA products to complete hair extensions. Salon 22’s stylist can primp hair for men, women, and children, but probably not yeti children.
