Since its inception as a nonprofit organization in 1985, Community Rowing Inc. has guided more than 15,000 students in invigorating rowing sessions held on the Charles River. Their experienced staff of Olympians and coaches helps students to become familiar with industry-standard boats and rowing machines through comprehensive introductory lessons and extended handshakes with the rowing arms. After gleaning the skills necessary to properly use equipment, students gain access to locker rooms, training areas, and any additional courses on the Charles River. The full-body, calorie-burning workouts are available throughout the week, allowing students to learn essential techniques such as sweeping, sculling, and dealing peacefully with the water road rage of aggressive gondoliers.

After more than 20 years spent in the fitness industry, Joshua Fleming founded Victory Fit Camp. His formula relies on physical and mental training that he learned in the US Marine Corps as well as nutritional advice from licensed experts. Today, each Victory Fit boot-camp session is led by an experienced coach, who walks clients of all fitness levels through indoor workouts or outdoor obstacle courses of ropes, foam pits, and trampolines.

At bodyco, instructors help clients of all fitness levels meet their individual goals with personal training sessions and group fitness classes. The foundational Intro to bodyco class teaches the fundamentals of fitness, helping beginner-level students gain confidence in completing basic exercise routines. Intermediate and advanced clients can take part in boot camp classes, which incorporate interval training, strength training, and bodyweight exercises and make use of equipment ranging from free weights to bands. Classes are held both indoors and outdoors, and can include dragging sleds or flipping tires. The gym's other classes run the gamut from boxing sessions to cycling and rowing classes.

Courtney and Corey Nappa complement each other’s skill sets well. Courtney has a wealth of business experience and a passion for beauty, and Corey has years under his belt as a personal trainer and fitness-center manager. They realized that they could combine their skills into an ideal health-club experience, and Ten X Club was born.

On the fitness end of the business, instructors hold group Pilates, yoga, and spin classes. Cardio and weight-lifting rooms feature equipment from manufacturers such as Nautilus and Precor. A kids’ playroom keeps tykes entertained while parents shed sweat. On the other end of the spectrum, the sleekly appointed salon features hair services, mani-pedis, and spray-tanning services in a quiet environment, the air perfumed with the scent of hair products. Here, too, members can send their kids to the playroom while they enjoy grownup relaxation time with beautifying services, adult conversation, and the freedom to eat animal crackers any way they choose.

B&S Fitness Program is composed of four different fitness-related branches, all of which are overseen by cofounders Brandi and Steven Dion. At North Shore Boot Camp Company, Brandi and Steven, along with their staff, lead indoor and outdoor boot-camp classes at locations across Massachusetts. On the track, they coordinate marathons and triathlons throughout the year for B&S Event Management, and hit the races themselves as part of a running team called SpiderOne Racing. Since every team needs a home base, the duo also operates B&S Sport Science, a 10,700-square-foot facility devoted to research- and technology-based services such as ACL rehab and personal training.
